Job Description Summary

The Research Specialist A will perform experiments, collect and record data and provide lab managerial assistance under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and with guidance from graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the laboratory. Opportunities will exist for the Research Specialist to present data at lab meetings and to possibly obtain authorship on scientific manuscripts.

Job Description

Carry out experiments in cancer research associated with areas of CRISPR-cas9 screening, cell and molecular biology, tissue culture and animal models of cancer. The job will include a combination of independent and multi-faceted team driven projects as well as providing postdoctoral support. Special emphasis is placed on experimental design, molecular biology techniques, as well as other techniques relevant to small animal model development. Duties will include guide RNA library construction, lentiviral production, genetic screen execution, characterizing genetically engineered mouse models, breeding, genotyping, imaging, surgery and tissue harvest, and maintaining records and material stocks related to the animal model's mission. Experience in cloning, Q-PCR, tissue culture and flow cytometry is also desirable. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential as well as the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment. Responsibilities will also include development of protocols and Standard Operating Procedures, materials and equipment management, equipment training. The Research Specialist A will be expected to work semi-independently with weekly guidance from the PI and more experienced lab members.

This position is contingent on funding.

Qualificiations

A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Biology, Animal Sciences or a related area and at least 0-1 year of biology research experience or equivalent combination of years and experience required (1-2 years preferred). Must be able to perform basic and advanced research tasks. Excellent computer skills are required. Minimum 0-1 year of experience in a laboratory or veterinary medical environment or equivalent education and work experience required. Must have experience working with a rodent breeding colony, experience with barrier facility procedures, genotyping, survival surgery and post-mortem tissue harvest. The successful applicant must be able to adapt to existing systems and be willing to learn new procedures and techniques; have a team orientation; and be flexible in order to meet varied and changing project needs. Must be self-directed and able to work independently. Candidate must possess good communication and computer skills, good organizational skills and be detail oriented.
