Job Description:


Dean College's School of Liberal Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach a First Aid and Safety course during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.


We are seeking adjunct instructor to teach SFL 170: First Aid and Safety/CPR/AED. SFL 170 is a 3-credit class that meets for 2 lecture hours/week and 2 lab hours/week. There are 20 students in the lecture and the lab. The adjunct pay rate is $1867 for the lecture and $1867 for the lab. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Sport/Fitness program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi and teaching materials.


The course description is as follows: This course is designed to give students the practical knowledge and skills to care for both themselves and others in the event of sudden illness or injury. Concepts of safety education and legal liability are examined in detail. Successful completion of the course can lead to certification in First Aid (American National Red Cross) and basic life support CPR (American Heart Association).


The SFL 170 section is scheduled as follows: the lecture meets Monday/Friday, 9 to 9:50 am; the lab meets on Wednesday, 8 to 9:50 am.



Requirements:


  • A Master's degree in biology, exercise science, athletic training, health or appropriate discipline area is required;
  • Must be Red Cross Certified and have the CPR Instructor certification. If an applicant doesn't have the CPR Instructor certification, Dean College is willing to pay for the half day of online and in person training;
  • College teaching experience preferred, particularly experience teaching first and second year undergraduates;
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Moodle, our learning management system, and classroom media is necessary;
  • The successful candidate will possess expertise in learner-centered teaching; use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy and the ability to work effectively with a culturally-diverse student body with a variety of learning styles.
