The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UW-Madison seeks candidates in the broad areas of energy systems modeling, integration, and control. The department is specifically interested in candidates who have expertise in both component-level and system-level modeling and control applicable to larger scale energy systems including the power grid. The ideal candidate will focus on technologies and approaches that enable increasing deployment of renewable energy sources, including solar and wind. Candidates that have expertise in energy storage technologies and the integration of these technologies with each other and the grid are of particular interest. Any candidate must have a strong background in physics-based modeling of thermal-fluid components and energy systems.
Candidates who transcend the traditional boundaries of Mechanical Engineering to bring into the research effort insights from Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines in order to address high impact societal problems related to areas described above are especially encouraged to apply.
