Full-Time Close All Job SummaryThe School of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks a tenure track assistant professor in Literacy Studies/Secondary English Education beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year.
We seek to hire faculty who are committed to addressing educational challenges in Colorado, the United States, and the world through thoughtfully selected and enacted methodological and theoretical perspectives. These colleagues will join our internationally recognized faculty whose deep commitment to equity and justice is reflected through our contributions to research, policy, and practice. Qualified applicants will have an active and innovative research agenda and corresponding publication record that reveals a thoughtful and compelling progression of scholarship. Our new hires will also demonstrate evidence of strong teaching and mentoring and will be expected to contribute to our teacher education, master’s, and doctoral programs; advise undergraduate students; mentor graduate students; and provide outreach and leadership to the local, school, campus, and larger communities.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeThe applicant chosen to fill this position will teach secondary language arts/literacy methods courses, work collaboratively with colleagues in our exceptional and innovative Secondary Humanities teacher education program, and be an active mentor and instructor in our MA and PhD programs in Literacy Studies and PhD program in Teacher Learning, Research, and Practice (TLRP).

  • work addresses race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, culture, gender, and/or sexuality in studies of literacy learning and teaching in in-school and/or out-of-school contexts and
  • who have earned a doctorate in Secondary English Education, Secondary Literacy Studies, or a related field, (or will earn one by August 2020) and experience teaching and conducting research with students and/or teachers in secondary school or community settings.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Preference will be given to individuals with teaching and research experience at the middle or high school level(s), especially applicants with experience with racially, ethnically, culturally, linguistically, and/or socioeconomically diverse student populations.
  • Applicants whose research is informed by sociocultural, critical, and/or post-structural theoretical perspectives are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Desired research areas include, but are not limited to,
    • writing and the teaching of writing, literature study and pedagogy, teacher education with a focus on literacy, disciplinary literacies, digital and media literacies, and policy studies related to literacy education.
