Marian University in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Manager of Career and Professional Development. The Manager of Career & Professional Development will be a vital member of the Exchange team—an initiative dedicated to community engagement and post-graduate student success through mentoring, career development opportunities, and experiential projects for students and the community.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Career & Professional Development is responsible for supporting all functions of the office, including meeting one-on-one with students to discuss career goals, experiential learning interests, resume and cover letter development, and mock interviews; providing classroom/group presentations and workshops - tailoring career development topics to each group; assisting data collection efforts (events, graduate survey, internships); and leading/supporting career development events on- and off-campus.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain regular office hours (40 hr/wk) providing walk-in and scheduled career development support to students
  • Educate and advise students and alumni on career development topics through individual appointments via email, phone and in-person; group sessions, mock interviews, and workshops
  • Oversee the career document review process in Handshake and maintain a one to two business day response rate for all Handshake documents in order to provide students with timely feedback and to keep the on-campus employment process running efficiently
  • Provide tailored presentations to prospective and current students of all majors on the Exchange, its function and resources, and career development topics (career documents, mock interviews, networking, professional dress and etiquette, etc.)
  • Partner with the Staff Assistant to manage the communication and coordination of the bi-annual Nursing Roundtable event, the annual fall Accounting Interview Day, and the annual on-campus accounting firm interviews
  • Provide support to the Manager of Internships for university-wide and major-specific on-campus career development events including Networking Knights, Employer Workshop Series, and collaborative programs with the Office of 21st Century Scholars
  • Partner with the Data Specialist to provide timely and relevant updates to The Exchange website, including diversity resources for underrepresented student populations and a comprehensive resume database
  • Represent Marian in the College Career Center Consortium (CCCC) of Indiana quarterly meetings/ events and collaborate with the other member institutions to provide five central Indiana career and networking fairs to students and alumni (Accounting Interview Day (AID) (September), Indiana Means Business Career Fair (IMB) (October), Sophomore Accounting/Finance Networking Event (December); Collegiate Career Expo (CCE) (February), and Teacher Candidate Interview Day (TCID) (April)
  • Support Staff Assistant in coordinating visits for employers seeking to recruit on campus and coordinate recruitment tables and classroom presentations in order to expose students to local opportunities in their industry of interest
  • Serve as the primary contact and liaison for MUCOM, the Office of International Programs, Office of Student Activities, Office of Orientation, and Housing and Residence life to provide career development and event support including SOAR, Student Activities Fair, exploratory campus visits, and MUCOM networking

    The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Marian University
  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 1 -2 years of relevant experience required. Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); ability to connect with a multitude of audiences; strong initiative, work ethic, and critical thinking skills; solid follow-through with all constituents; commitment to customer service; and the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and goals, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience in Career Service Management systems (e.g. Handshake, Symplicity, etc.) is a plus. Social media proficiency, especially in relation to student and alumni engagement, is also a plus.
