Responsible for managing the processing and evaluation of Satisfactory Academic Progress and Special Circumstances appeals. Manages the review and resolution of errors output from errors generated by system processes. Ensures processing functions are performed in compliance with established federal, state, and institutional rules, guidelines, and practices. Determines the appropriate course of action in unusual or extenuating circumstances related to the processing and verification functions. Interprets audit reports and manages the auditing reports at key dates according to the financial aid calendar. Supervises, trains, and manages salaried, FWS, and OPS staff responsible for these functions. Trains others not directly reporting to this section as needed.
Counsels students and other University personnel via phone, email, and in-person meetings regarding the processing of appeals and transient student aid, providing expertise and advice regarding these topics.
Acts as a liaison with the Division of Student Affairs and with academic advisors, whose expertise is sought in support of certain types of Satisfactory Academic Progress appeals.
Provides support, information, and guidance to leadership to by participating in discussions and testing regarding updates and changes to the student information system, imaging product, and other products used regularly in support of the financial aid function. Monitors and assesses processes continually; recommends changes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and/or compliance, and shares responsibility for the implementation of changed procedures. Supports receptionist during high volume times for submission of documentation in support of appeals and/or verification. Updates appeal workflow on the spot. In the case of both appeal and verification documents, reviews entire student record to advise whether any documentation is still required. Notes interaction in the student record. Assists other sections during peak times in support of the goals of the Office of Financial Aid.Qualifications Bachelor's degree and two years of experience or a high school diploma/equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
Prior financial aid/financial literacy, customer service, advising experience, or experience working one-on-one with people in a professional setting.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook or equivalent software.
Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Experience performing accurately in a detail oriented environment and the ability to meet project deadlines.
Experience gathering, interpreting, reporting, and editing information.
Experience and ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
