Manager of Library Services
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Academic Support and Disability Services the Manager of Library Services will: supervise the day-to-day operation of the library, Library Management; coordinate the overall functions of library activities, including reference, technical services, acquisitions and technical processing, manage local circulation, implement Ohio Link; in collaboration with the Curriculum Manager, serve as a resource for faculty to determine resources available for courses such as Open Education Resource (OER), Cengage, etc.; coordinate Peer Tutoring and E Tutoring Services; coordinate Athletic Study Table hours; serve as secondary advisor, and tutor as necessary. Annual salary range is $50,000 - 60,000.
Duties and Responsibilities
SUPERVISE THE LIBRARY:
Perform the day-to-day administration of the library; 1-2 days at Perry Campus Library and 3-4 days at Main Campus Library.
Provide short and long-range planning; manage budget; write reports; Develop policies and procedures; Communicate with staff; Oversee employee compliance with Bargaining Agreements and College policies and procedures; Oversee professional development of Library employees including conducting performance evaluations; Make decisions about budget expenditures and Library policies and procedures based on institutional needs; Promote public relations; Liaison with faculty, staff, and students; Participate actively in staff development both as facilitator and participant; and Engage in professional development.
SERVE AS LIBRARIAN:
Library Management: Coordinate the overall functions of library activities, including reference, technical services, acquisitions and technical processing, collection development, circulation, and inventories; establish and maintain policies and procedures; manage local circulation, patron borrowing, and library materials; process bills and fines related to patron borrowing; communicate with branch campuses to evaluate needs for library services.
Library Instruction: Provide reference service and bibliographic instruction to faculty, staff and students; assist students with their research needs both in the library and online; notify faculty and staff about new materials.
Manage local circulation: Assist students, faculty and staff in locating all local materials; process bills and fines related to patron borrowing.
Manage library serials: Evaluate, develop, deselect and maintain library serial holdings; handle claims, binding, shelving, and development of special indexes.
Technical processing: Process new library materials to be entered into the library collection; archive and preserve library materials. Catalogs all new library materials.
Interlibrary loan activities: Manage OhioLINK borrowing, including circulation of materials, receive/return all materials borrowed from other state institutions; Manage non-OhioLINK interlibrary loan requests received from students, faculty and administration.
Collection Development: Evaluate, develop, deselect and maintain library holdings; communicate with academic departments to support and to improve collections to ensure accreditation standards are met and maintained.
OhioLINK: Serve as Lead implementer for the Hocking College Library; knowledgeable about all aspects of the statewide system that centrally and locally catalogs and circulates items; communicate with staff to ensure they are abreast of current and future changes. Attend all relevant OhioLINK meetings.
Assessment: Measure and continually assess library resources and services, utilization, and student success.
Budget: Manage library budget and expenditures i.e. books, periodicals, software, maintenance contracts, supplies, equipment.
Facilities Management: Manage space, furnishings, maintenance, supplies, printing, and security. Opens the Academic Success Center at 7:30 am, and responsible for staffing until 10pm.
Training/Supervision: Train, supervise, and evaluate library personnel and student employees; promote library staff growth and development.
Library Technology and Webpage: Identify and utilize emerging technologies to provide a state of the art library; promote, evaluate, and act as a catalyst to ensure that the library webpage supports the scholarly and leisure needs of students, faculty and staff; utilize social networking and other technology to promote the library and its services.
Professional Development: Keep updated in the field by attending seminars, classes, or workshops; take part in professional programs and organizations in the field of library science; collaborate with libraries and consortia through knowledge and resource sharing; serve on various campus committees as needed.
Vision and Leadership: Provide leadership in balancing traditional library services with evolving technologies; collaborate with faculty to expand library services and resources; cultivate a learning commons culture.
COORDINATE PEER-TUTORING AND E-TUTORING SERVICES
Train, supervise and evaluate tutors; manage tutoring budget; collect, maintain, and analyze data related to tutoring services; coordinate with faculty in relevant subject areas to identify potential tutors; oversee scheduling of tutors, including schedule changes and maintenance of posted schedules for print, online, and digital display; update tutor contact information; schedule crisis tutoring for students in collaboration with faculty; maintain e-tutoring database, post e-tutoring schedules and provide e-tutoring services through OhioLINK.
COORDINATE ATHLETIC STUDY TABLE HOURS
Maintain and collect study table hours data for the Athletic Department; create spreadsheets for athletes to track study table time; compile weekly reports for the Athletic Department.
COORDINATE WITH CURRICULUM MANAGER ON OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
Assist the curriculum manager to identify and promote open educational resources available through the Library and OhioLINK.
SERVE AS THE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION OFFICER
Serve as the Diversity and Inclusion Officer for student initiatives. Develop and implement inclusion and diversity student initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Library science or other related field preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
- Three (3) years of work experience required.
- Experience in library services and student support services preferred.
- Experience supervising employees.
- Ability to prioritize.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills.
