Core Faculty Positions in Economics

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) aims to recruit two (2) research-oriented economists for core faculty positions at GU-Q. Core faculty positions are full-time positions designed to replicate the institutional commitment to academic freedom and professional opportunities associated with tenure-track appointments.

The nominal teaching load is 2-2 for core faculty. Junior colleagues are eligible to apply for a “junior research semester” free of teaching. Colleagues who earn senior core faculty status are eligible to apply for periodic research sabbaticals.

We seek applications from colleagues at all ranks and all economic disciplines, with some preference on development, international economics, or on applied work.

Applicants at advanced rank must have substantial research accomplishments and evidence of ambitious ongoing research agendas. Entry-level applicants must have exceptional promise of future research productivity. All applicants must have outstanding teaching credentials.

Qatar offers a diverse, safe, and family-friendly environment. Compensation and expatriate benefits packages are extremely competitive. GU-Q provides generous research support and support for conference travel. Faculty members at GU-Q are eligible to apply for Qatar National Priorities Research Program grants from the Qatar National Research Fund for various research opportunities.

For more information on GU-Q, see For a glimpse of what it is like to teach and live in Qatar, see:

The deadline for applications is December 6, 2019. Interviews will be conducted at the Allied Social Sciences Associations (ASSA) meetings in San Diego from January 3-5, 2020. We will be happy to consider alternative arrangements for exceptional candidates who are unable to travel to San Diego. Applicants at advanced rank should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names of three scholarly references. Entry-level candidates should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a job-market paper, copies of teaching evaluations, and three letters of recommendation. Applications must be made via Job Openings for Economists. Faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted.
