Position Summary:

The department of Counseling & Psychological Services is seeking a Staff Counselor – Alcohol & Other Drugs.

As a member of the Counseling & Psychological Center (CAPS) clinical staff, this position coordinates comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention and early intervention services for the University. These services include mental health consultation and assessment, outreach, coordination of services and education on related topics for the FAU community, including but limited to: students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders. This position also provides general mental health services to students, which includes individual, group, and couples therapy, as well as outreach programming and participation in our training program.

Summary of responsibilities:

  • Intervention services: Student screening and assessments, recommendations, education, support and psychotherapy. In addition, crisis/emergency walk-in coverage, as well as other clinical direct service modalities, as deemed appropriate.
  • Case Management: Will work closely with CAPS’ Community Resource Specialist in providing referral support for students struggling with AOD concerns that fall outside of the scope of CAPS’ treatment model. Will sit on the High-Risk Student CARE Team, and regularly consult with the Case Manager and other campus partners to coordinate student support efforts.
  • Community building and committee work: Serve on the Healthy and Sustainable Campus 2030 Alcohol and Other Drug subcommittee, networking with other offices on campus and with other campuses, professionals, and community offices.
  • Prevention services: Outreach and education which includes programs for student classes and presentations for faculty, staff, and the FAU community-at-large on a variety of related topics.
  • Coordination of Counseling Center AOD Services: Provide oversight of AOD-related services and interventions and provide in-house expert consultation to other clinical staff regarding AOD concerns.
  • Training: Provide direct and indirect clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians and conduct periodic training seminars for professional and training staff in areas of personal expertise. They will participate in our practicum and APA-Accredited Doctoral Internship training programs.
  • Will perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in mental health counseling, guidance, psychology, or rehabilitation counseling required.

Licensable as a mental health counselor in the State of Florida required.

Committed to providing high quality clinical and culturally-responsive services that integrate multicultural, equity, and social justice frameworks into practice.

Strong generalists who can provide multimodal psychotherapeutic treatment and prevention interventions to emerging adults.

Demonstrate competency in their theoretical orientation and be able to explain how their therapeutic practice derives from an identified theory.

Versed with providing short-term services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrate awareness and value of culturally-responsive mental health practice.

Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.

Strong commitment and experience with diverse individuals and communities including but not limited to: students of color, working-class/working-poor populations, first generation students, LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming clients, people with disabilities.

UCC experience in multidisciplinary setting.

Strong commitment and experience with diverse individuals and communities including but not limited to: students of color, working-class/working-poor populations, first generation students, LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming clients, people with disabilities.

Experience and interest in group therapy.

Experience and interest in provision of community level interventions, outreach, consultation.

Professional development training experiences in areas of culturally-responsive counseling, social justice frameworks.

Experience with complex crises and/or clinical situations.

Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical, Licensed in the field of study by the State of Florida.

Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) or Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) or Certified Addiction Professional (CAP).

Experience and interest for clinical supervision and training of graduate trainees.

Experience working with Titanium.

Salary:

$55,000 - $73,000
