Reports to the Hillcrest (HC) Pre-Op /Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nursing Leader and provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.
This position assists with monitoring daily operations and overall function of the HC Pre-Op and PACU Department. Oversees staff while maintaining budget and all Assistant Nurse Manager functions according to the job description. This position will work closely with leadership and team members from the Hillcrest Operating Room Department, which contains 11 ORs.
The Assistant Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, patient experience and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care.
Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others. Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.
There is one position for day shift, one position for evening shift. Assistant Nurse Manager positions are eligible for shift differentials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing required.
Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Five (5+) or more years or relevant experience, including at least three (3) years of recent PACU or ICU RN experience in an acute care hospital.
Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
Proven knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or relevant area.
- Relevant specialty certification (e.g. CAPA, CPAN, CCRN).
- One (1+) year or more of recent supervisor or management experience.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
