DESCRIPTION

The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health has approximately 100 salaried faculty and is comprised of seven divisions: Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Family Medicine, Global Health, Health Policy, and Preventive Medicine. Our mission is to improve Public Health through preventive, behavioral, epidemiologic and clinical research, education and clinical care. Our patient care is provided at several locations across the county as well as through multiple initiatives with the medically under-served in our community and includes training of over 60 residents and fellows. With over $125 million in research grants and contracts, our award-winning faculty conduct innovative Public Health research at the intersection of behavioral and medical sciences to assess and understand chronic disease etiology, improve human health, and prevent disease at the individual and population level.

Under the direct supervision of the Study Coordinator, the Health Coach will assist with the delivery of a health intervention related to health aging. Duties will include: completing scheduled in-person and telephone health counseling calls to control and intervention participants, preparing for and participating in weekly case management meetings with study Investigators and staff, attending intervention education sessions, assisting with participant recruitment, conducting in-person eligibility screening and obtaining informed consent, entering participant data into study database and other tasks to support the delivery of the intervention.

Learns to use professional health education concepts. Applies campus policies and procedures to resolve routine issues. Works on problems of limited scope. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Experience with health coaching or health program coordination.

  • Basic knowledge of the health promotion and education field.

  • Skills associated with the delivery of health promotion and education programs.

  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with the objective measurement of physical activity & sedentary behavior; including ActivPALS, pedometers, accelerometers, Sensecam and GPS devices.

  • Experience in a research setting.

  • Experience working with REDCap databases.

  • Experience working with an older population.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must have valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

  • Must be able to work Mondays.

  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet the needs of study participants.
