DESCRIPTION

The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health has approximately 100 salaried faculty and is comprised of seven divisions: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Family Medicine, Health Policy, Global Health, Preventive Medicine, and Behavioral Health. Our mission is to improve Public Health through preventive, behavioral, epidemiologic and clinical research, education and clinical care. Our patient care is provided at several locations across the county as well as through multiple initiatives with the medically undersered in our community and includes training of over 60 residents and fellows. With over $125 million in research grants and contracts, our award-winning faculty conduct innovative Public Health research at the intersection of behavioral and medical sciences to assess and understand chronic disease etiology, improve human health and prevent disease at the individual and population level.

Under the supervision of the study coordinator, the Research Assistant will assist in and perform duties related to the recruitment, enrollment, and assessment of participants into studies focused on sedentary behavior, physical activity, the environment and health. Duties will include: completing recruitment phone calls and in person recruitment as needed, conducting eligibility screening (in person or by phone), obtaining informed consent, performing physical and cognitive functioning assessments, collecting basic body measurements (i.e. height, weight, blood pressure), following standardized protocols for assessments, and administering written or online surveys and interviews. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of all data collected, entering data into study databases, and ensuring data completeness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of experience, preferably in Public Health, Exercise Science or related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Knowledge of research protocols and experience with the collection and recording of data measurements.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience to independently review data for completeness, adhere to protocols, and complete quality control checks.

  • Experience working with databases.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in adhering to HIPAA and Human Research Protection Program regulations including medical record and regulatory document management.

  • Ability to work two 8-hour days each week.

  • Experience working with adults 55 years or older.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with REDCap databases.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must have valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

  • TB test and other immunizations or vaccines (H1N1) may be required.

  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet the needs of study participants.
