DESCRIPTION

The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego Health System plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture at UC San Diego that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS) and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

SHS provides primary medical care, including urgent care and support services such as laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray to over 38,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. SHS staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, optometrists, medical assistants, health educators, administrative and other healthcare professionals.

The Medical Receptionist will greet, assist and provide customer service to patients in a large multi-physician ambulatory clinical practice. Check patients into urgent care and nurses clinic with the ability to screen patient symptoms and follow a checklist protocol. Verify eligibility, make appointments, schedule procedures and tests using an electronic medical record (EMR). Guide patients in accessing various services at Student Health Services. Arrange and process physician referrals. Provide administrative support for medical providers. Mediate patient complaints. Assist in other areas of the clinic as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven customer service experience working as a receptionist in an ambulatory clinical setting.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of health information and medical terminology.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical records management.

  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet established deadlines.

  • Experience using computerized patient scheduling systems and computer for information retrieval including patient prescription and service fee information, data entry, etc.

  • Strong strength in verbal and written communication including experience communicating in a professional, pleasant, and courteous manner and providing excellent customer service.

  • Active listening skills and ability to act upon patient’s concerns with a caring demeanor; ability to deal with patient issues regarding sexuality without expressing personal bias or value judgment.

  • Flexibility to work in different areas with changing tasks, priorities, and interruptions. Ability to work under pressure calmly and efficiently, coping with variable workloads, and keeping track of many diverse activities, requests, and directions simultaneously.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evening and Saturdays.
