***Montgomery College accepts applications for Adjunct/Part-time Faculty on a continuous basis. Applications may be reviewed periodically based on the student enrollment needs. ***
- The listing of a course in the schedule of classes as “TBA” does not constitute an assignment.
- The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Work two hours each week (per section assigned) during the semester.
- Attend class periodically (frequency determined together by coach and host faculty) for the purposes of having a consistent and ongoing understanding of the curriculum, the instructor's expectations for the students, the class culture, assignment requirements, and major concepts/skills. By visiting classes, coaches are not playing any role in evaluating faculty in the classroom, but rather attaining high visibility among the students and a cohesive relationship with the class.
- Facilitate/lead/oversee weekly study sessions for students.
- Send out weekly emails to each section of students to reinforce main concepts, remind students of upcoming deadlines, and/or send helpful activities/resources.
- Meet monthly with other embedded coaches and ATPA coordinators.
- Attend mandatory training before classes begin.
- Strategize with faculty to identify and support students with highest need
- Reinforce course material through group and one-on-one tutoring, review sessions, and weekly e-mails.
- Refer students to learning centers, academic departments, and other resources/units at the college.
- Teach self-advocacy skills, academic skills, and non-cognitive skills
- Meet once during the semester with the program coordinator to discuss performance and program requirements.
- Document your work in WCOnline, the ATPA documentation application, coaching activities, such as attendance and content covered in study sessions, notes on class visits, and outcomes of meetings with host faculty.
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Chemistry, Biology, Criminal Justice, English, Engineering, Physics, Psychology, Math or a related field.
- Teaching experience.
- Thorough knowledge of teaching strategies and curricular content within a particular discipline taught at the College and engagement strategies for high-risk populations.
- Knowledge of current pedagogy in the appropriate discipline/content area
- Skill in verbal and written communications, interpersonal relationships, office/computer applications, leadership and organization.
- Knowledge of multicultural student populations with varied levels of academic preparation.
- Skill in increasing student retention and achievement.
- Ability to use a learning management system such as such as Blackboard
- Ability to problem-solve, think creatively, and work with a diverse group of students and colleagues.
- A willingness to work collaboratively with the lead instructor of multiple sections of courses (depending on available ESH) to support student success.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work for a minimum of 1 ESH per semester (equivalent to 30 hours during the semester).
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
- Tutoring experience preferred, but not required.
- Daytime availability preferred, but not required.
- Experience engaging and motivating at-risk students.
