Work Schedule

The Senior Systems Analyst/Developer works at an advanced level with end users to analyze business processes, configure package software and to design, develop, implement and maintain complex application and utility software in support of the University’s Student Information and Financial Aid Systems. S/he can provide technical support and maintenance of systems and technologies that enable the client applications to interact with the database.

Computer science, engineering, management information systems, or a related field.

May substitute additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis in lieu of the education requirement.

Education Preferred

Master’s degree.

Experience Required5 yearsType of Experience

- Related experience providing technical support and administration of application servers such as Tomcat, load balancers, web application firewalls, restful data services such as Oracle Restful Data Service (ORDS), and configuring/administering web application frameworks
- Experienced with Linux system administration

Experience Preferred

- Troubleshooting Ellucian Banner middleware technical issues
- Administering the Banner 9 application and its middleware
- Administering Ellucian/Banner 3rd party products, such as DegreeWorks and Touchnet
- Experience with report writing tools such as Argos Reporting or Tableau
- Experience with PL/SQL programming
- Experience with WebLogic, Tomcat, Load Balancers, Firewalls, and RESTful data services

License/Certification RequiredLicense/Certification PreferredSkills Required

- Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications
- Proficiency with application design and data modeling
- Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients
- Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects
- Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods
- Knowledge of application domain

Skills Preferred

- Banner 9 Middleware (Ellucian Solution Manager) configuration, administration, and support
- Banner 9 Student system and/or Financial Aid
- PL/SQL development/maintenance
- Oracle database administration
- Java software development

Internal / External Contacts

The individual will have frequent contact with technical and administrative staff at Rice including Director level positions. The individual may have contact with vendors, consultants and will have contact with end users of the Banner applications.

Physical Demands

May have long periods using the computer of up to eight hours per day.

Working Conditions

Office environment. May require overtime and/or weekends during peak periods to meet deadlines or in emergency situations.
