Nature of Work:

The School of Medicine (SOM)will be participating in the Maintenance of Certification Portfolio ApprovalProgram (MOC PAP) to support its faculty physicians’ involvement in maintenanceof certification programs across multiple American Board of Medical Specialties(ABMS) specialties.  The MOC PAP is aportfolio sponsor organization that develops and oversees the execution ofmultiple quality improvement (QI) efforts designed to improve health care whilemeeting the standards and guidelines for MOC Part IV credit.  Portfolio sponsorship is granted by theMulti-Specialty Portfolio Program (MSPP) within ABMS.

 This part-time (0.50 FTE)position is responsible for the supervision, coordination, operationalrepresentation, financial management, promotion and expansion of the SOM’s MOCPAP.  This position is also responsiblefor the supervision and/or maintenance, coordination, financial management andpromotion of the Dean’s Small Grants Program for UCH and CHCO.  This position requires the coordinator to understand and navigate thecomplexities of an academic medical center, including the University ofColorado, Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO), and University of ColoradoHospital (UCH), Denver Health Medical Center (DHMC) and Veteran Affair’sMedical Center (VAMC).

 Examples of Work Performed: MOCPAPProgram Management:

  • In collaboration with the Physician Leads and per policy dictated by the ABMS, the individual will monitor priorities and direction of the MOC PAP, aligning the overall MOC PAP with other institutional initiatives. 
  • The individual will represent MOC PAP in interaction with related internal and external units such as the IHQSE, OPPE, quality departments at UCH and CHCO, quality leaders at CHCO, UCH, DHMC, VAMC and the NOC sites.  Work with clinical volunteer faculty to facilitate use of the MOC PAP.
  • Respond to notifications regarding changes in the MSPP requirements and coordinate their implementation as well as complete annual progress reports. 
  • Apply for designation of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for MOC as needed.
  • Provide annual reports, budget proposals, program activity and other related information to the MOC PAP oversight committee.  Manage budgets and program expenses. 
  • Work with the SOM departments and Office of Community Based Medical Education (OCBME) to promote of MOC PAP to full-time faculty and clinical volunteer faculty.  Utilize university mediums to communicate important changes and/or deadlines for the MOC PAP. 
  • Designationsof Credit for MOC Activities:

  • Provide guidance and direction to faculty on navigating the application process.  Educate faculty and staff regarding MOC IV requirements of the MOC PAP and their specific ABMS specialty board.  Work with faculty to develop, implement and complete QI activities.  Provide consultations with faculty on identifying a problem in quality, the development of QI methodologies, plans for sustainability, and general advice on the completion of a successful QI project. 
  • Direct applicants to online materials that pertain to MOC PAP and/or QI methodologies.  Prepare and disseminate print materials as needed.  Maintain files for all MOC PAP activities, including project specific information and individual participant information for reporting purposes.  Prepare credit certificates for participants.
  • In collaboration with the Quality Project Review Board (QPRB), manage, review, preliminarily and formally approve applications to designate MOC IV credit. 
  • Coordinate, schedule, and maintain records for each QPRB meeting including projects reviewed, outcomes, and requested follow-up and meeting minutes. 
  • Work directly with the MSPP to report the completion of QI efforts and physician completion reports via the MOCAM online system. 
  • SmallGrants Program:

  • Maintain the functionality for the small grants program (offered by the SOM in collaboration with UCH and CHCO), to improve patient safety and quality of care.  This program receives applications from faculty for grant funding one-two times a year. 
  • Coordinate the promotion and receipt of the requests for proposals, letter of intent and subsequent grant proposal review by the institutional review teams, and award notification to project leaders and SOM system. 
  • Maintain program policies and procedures for the application process, the review process, the disbursement of funds, the utilization of funds and the reconciliation of grant accounts once the award period is complete. 
  • Coordinate, schedule, and maintain records for each small grants program review meetings including projects reviewed, outcomes, requested follow-up and meeting minutes. 
  • Create award speedtype accounts and track/manage the use of grant funds to ensure spending is within small grants program and university polices. 
  • Maintain a database of all applicant information, project team, speedtype account activity and project outcomes. 
  • Work with each awardee to submit their QI project for MOC Part IV credit with the MOC PAP.

     Salary and Benefits:The hiring salary forthis part-time position has been established at $25,195 - $33,005 (0.50 FTE)and is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligiblefor overtime compensation.

    QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care administration, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience in QI program management, or project management skills and experience.
  • Substitution: A combination of education and relatedtechnical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’sdegree on a year for year basis.


    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with web editing and webpage development/maintenance.
  • Experience working in a large health care system such as an academic medical center.
