Job Details

Foundry College, a new type of two-year college, seeks candidates with business experience in healthcare administration to develop synchronous, live, online courses. This online college is designed to educate working adults to fill in-demand jobs by teaching skills and knowledge that are important to employers and unlikely to be automated in the foreseeable future.

The Instructional Designer (ID) will be responsible for designing up to three (3) courses focused specifically on healthcare administration: Business Structures and Functions, and Decision Analyses in Business, and a course on learning to use specific software (to be determined). The ID will work with the Foundry College team to create syllabi that outline key workplace skills for healthcare administrators and then design each class session to be taught online.

Applicants should be passionate about education and should have broad experience in healthcare administration and management. Applicants must understand common skills needed to work in healthcare administration as well as common tools used industry-wide (e.g., ethical decision making, regulatory compliance, organizational policy and risk management, hospital management software, etc.). Applicants should also understand common scenarios that healthcare managers face and be able to use those scenarios in the context of active learning exercises for students. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, be open to innovative ways of teaching, and be flexible and adaptable as the curriculum and pedagogy continue to evolve.

Responsibilities:

1. Create a syllabus that includes all necessary learning objectives for students planning to enter healthcare management.
2. Create detailed lesson plans for 26, 90-minute class sessions. Lesson plans are developed as PowerPoint decks. Each plan contains:

  • On average, 30 minutes of slides that constitute a lecture, with detailed Presenter Notes beneath each slide. This lecture focuses on conveying particular practical skills and knowledge, as specified in the syllabus.
  • Student Polls, which are inserted into the lecture in order to keep students engaged.
  • Breakout Groups (of 2 – 4 students, as appropriate) following a portion of the lecture, during which active learning (e.g., debates, role play, group problem solving) occurs. The activities in the Breakout Groups will be based on real-world business scenarios that the ID will create and develop.
  • A 10-minute, 6 question, multiple choice quiz at the end of class, which assesses how well students learned the material presented in class.

The Instructional Designer is responsible for all aspects of the lesson plan, including the quiz. Depending on their level of subject matter expertise, successful Instructional Designers may need to conduct research for course material and scenarios by interviewing managers in relevant functional roles.

3. Meet bi-weekly with the faculty team who are developing courses.
4. Iterate on each lesson plan with an Editor, who will help ensure that the lesson plans are clear and comprehensive.

Structure:
This is a part-time, contract role that will be conducted remotely.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years experience in healthcare management.
  • B.A or B.S., preferably in Healthcare, Business or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with corporate training/education is helpful.
  • Open to new ideas; adaptable.
  • Highly organized and responsible.
  • High energy and entrepreneurial spirit.
