This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 8/18/2020, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SHS work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Incumbent works 10 months per year and is paid over 12 months. Anticipated month(s) off will be June and July, 2020.

This position within Student Health Services, under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs phlebotomy and varied non-technical laboratory procedures in processing or preparing laboratory specimens, materials and supplies, and in the operation of specialized mechanical laboratory equipment. This position provides clerical support to the laboratory, including answering phones, responding to requests from providers, students and support staff, and assisting lab manager with assigned record keeping.

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $2,231 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,231 - $4,307 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and six to twelve months of related experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Must possess and maintain valid certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, as defined by the California Department of Health Services, which permits the incumbent to perform skin punctures and venipuncture.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Demonstrated skills and efficiency in the use of computers and laboratory information software systems.
  • One-year experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • One-year experience entering data into an electronic health records system.
  • Experience working with college students or young adults in a college health center setting.
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic codes used in insurance billing.
  • Experience preparing samples for testing at reference laboratories.
