Departmental Overview
The Interdisciplinary Social Science Programs provide an interdisciplinary approach to the study of social science issues. Comprised of three main undergraduate majors (Global Studies, Political Economy and Cognitive Science) and MA programs in Global Studies and Asian Studies, ISSP serves approximately 1,000 students. ISSP is committed to undergraduate teaching and is an integral part of the Social Science Division in the College of Letters and Science.

This position has responsibility for scheduling, enrollment management, and curricular support for all ISSP degree programs. The position reports to the Director of Administration and supports the Faculty Directors on short and long term planning of curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Assists Faculty Directors and Director of Administration to draft schedule of classes to be offered each term
  • Enters the schedule of classes into the campus course scheduling system. Sets up enrollment limits, seat reservations, and other course restrictions
  • Works with other departments to set up combined courses
  • Obtains appropriate classrooms for classes
  • Manages student enrollment and ensures students are enrolled based upon established priorities
  • Provides information to faculty, visiting instructors, and advising team about scheduling, courses, and enrollment.
  • Coordinates the independent study and DeCAL offerings
  • Prepares and submits course approval forms to the Committee on Courses of the Academic Senate when the department proposes additions, changes, or withdrawals of courses
  • Collects, analyzes, and provides statistics on enrollment trends and other departmental data and statistics to department management as needed.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary program directors on policy/administrative changes.
  • Assists with events such as commencement, student workshops, or other essential functions.

    Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent experience or training
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS office suite, Adobe Acrobat, and shared Google docs/sheets, email, and the internet
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including cross-cultural sensitivities
  • Ability in problem identification, reasoning.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Interpersonal skills. Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous University of California experience or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge or ability to learn University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Knowledge of and experience using University-specific computer application programs, including the Student Information System (SIS), CalCentral, Campus Solutions, Course Management System and/or equivalent knowledge.
  • Knowledge of department and school/college general and major course requirements
