(Job #19-34) Analyst/Programmer, Foundation (Non-Exempt): $3,470-6,681/month, or Career (Exempt): $4,372-10,792/month. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a full-time, 12-month pay plan, permanent position with a one-year probationary period in Information Technology Services. Position Summary: Information Technology Services at Humboldt State University is seeking an Analyst/Programmer to join a team of hardworking and dedicated individuals to maintain, enhance and develop campus applications in a fast-paced organization. This team supports a growing number of applications, as well as our primary ERP systems (PeopleSoft Student, Human Resources, and Finance). The individual in this position will provide primary support to Student Financial Services, but also provides support for other various departments.
Foundation Level Duties: This position is a part of team supporting a wide variety of business functions, users and technology solutions across campus. Each team member is generally responsible for analyzing one or more campus department's business needs and helping to design and support solutions to meet those needs. Tasks and projects range from configuring “off the shelf” software to writing and deploying custom code, system modifications, and interfaces between systems. This position will involve working closely and consulting with functional users to understand and meet their needs. The analyst/programmer will also guide the functional users through usability and functional testing to ensure that the final solution is complete. Additionally, team members are expected to document the services they develop, use appropriate change management procedures, and provide backup support for others.
Career Level Duties: All of the Analyst/Programmer Foundation Level duties outlined above, with the additional requirements of: (1) increased scope and complexity of the specific duties assigned, (2) a higher level of skill and proficiency required of the incumbent to perform the duties assigned, and (3) greater independence and less supervision in the performance of duties assigned.
Foundation Level Minimum Qualifications: (1) A basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages, including a working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems. This basic foundation may be obtained through EITHER a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, OR similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Ability to (2) demonstrate a basic understanding of the standard principles and terminology associated with application programs, integrated systems, and software solutions including databases, (3) address common problems of limited scope, and (4) work-ready communication skills.
Career Level Minimum Qualifications: (1) A basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages, including a working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems. This basic foundation may be obtained through EITHER a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, OR similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Ability to (2) demonstrate competence in independently applying technical judgment to standard and nonstandard applications and systems, solving a wide range of problems and developing practicable and thorough solutions, and (3) effective communication and listening skills.
Knowledge, Abilities & Skills: The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of SQL queries, database structures, secure coding techniques, at least one higher level programming language. Candidates must have knowledge and ability gained from experience in systems analysis, application development, and implementation planning. The successful candidate will also possess strong interpersonal, consultative, and problem solving skills as well as the ability to innovate and quickly learn new technologies and skills. Candidates must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
