About the Center for Student Diversity
The Center for Student Diversity is a unit within the Division of Student Affairs at William & Mary. The broad range of responsibilities within the Division of Student Affairs is shared among several departments and offices, organized into five thematic areas. The Center for Student Diversity a significant partner within the Student Success Thematic Area, alongside the Dean of Students Office, and The Haven. The Center for Student Diversity (CSD) strives to foster inclusion, collaboration, and relationship-building within the campus community. The Center provides academic, cultural social, and transition support for undeserved and underrepresented students and promotes exchange and dialogue between individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities. We also serve as an information center, providing training and resources to the campus and local Williamsburg community regarding student multicultural and diversity topics.
The Center for Student Diversity is seeking an Assistant/Associate Director to support the mission and function of the Center and to serve as a catalyst for change in the student body and campus community. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing the Center’s vigorous and comprehensive programming and educational efforts. The Assistant/Associate Director develops and manages racial-justice oriented programs, trainings, and workshops for students, faculty, staff, and the greater Williamsburg community. The Assistant/Associate Director provides leadership in campus efforts related to student diversity/inclusion issues, and acts as a liaison on these issues for Residence Life, Academic Enrichment, and the Diversity & Inclusion Office. The Assistant/Associate Director joins a team of professionals who are dedicated to serving as advocates for historically underrepresented and marginalized students.
The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in higher education, college student personnel, or other related field; possess advanced knowledge of student and identity development theories; be highly skilled in creating and facilitating intersectional dialogue workshops and trainings; have experience supporting diverse student populations (e.g. Latinx, Asian American Pacific Islander, African American and multiracial students, male identifying organizations, and LGBTQ+ student communities); demonstrated ability to relate to students, faculty, staff, and the public; possess the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, student-oriented, and data driven environment; demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, leadership, and collaborative skills; be able to develop and implement short and long-range plans to meet program needs; and possess skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint.
It is highly desirable for the Assistant/Associate Director to have prior experience in diversity training. Preferred qualifications include an Ed.D or PHD in College Student Development, Higher Education, or Gender Studies with minors in African American, Latinx, LGBTQ, or Asian American Studies is preferred.
