The Office of Risk Assessment includes Minors on Campus and the Violence Prevention and Threat Management (VPTM) Program. The VPTM Program’s responsibility is to ensure community members are aware of how to identify and share concerns regarding students, staff and faculty and that appropriate follow up is endured to meet the needs of the individual and community. This office facilitates the university Behavior Assessment Team and its mission is to ensure that effective intervention and management is provided to situations that pose or may pose a threat to the safety of the community. The primary goal is to work effectively with community partners to prevent violence so that the university may remain a safe environment to learn.

Essential Job Duties

The Assistant Director/Case Manager will be a full-time position with a 12 month appointment. This position will report to the Director of Risk Assessment (Risk Assessment Case Manager) under Violence Prevention & Threat Management and work integrally with partner units, including DASA and HR. The Case Manager may provide on-call support, program support and lead prevention and outreach efforts and provide some direct case management. Case management will be provided for student, employee, and non-affiliate related cases.

Conduct threat assessments and safety planning for those identified as victims or potential victims of violence.

Provide timely and appropriate referrals to support services within the University and coordinate intervention plans through the use of and collaboration with various University and off-campus resources in order to minimize or resolve concerns.

Monitor and track individual cases and progress to ensure compliance with recommendations, on-going assessment and to address new or emerging concerns as they arise.

Conduct follow-up on cases by applying the threat assessment matrix tools and any other tools necessary.

Collaborate as part of the University’s NCSU Cares Team and the University’s BAT.

Assist in providing comprehensive outreach and consultation services to faculty, staff and students through the use of traditional in-person presentations, social media, and other creative multi-media efforts; collaborate with other campus offices to ensure coherent integration of messaging and education of the campus community.

Assist in the development of prevention and outreach campaigns, including social media and web presence.

Assist in managing a case management database by ensuring all correspondence, notes, and action items are accurately documented.

Assist in the appropriate and ethical assessment of data collected by and about individuals of concern in an effort to develop and maintain best practices.

Provide referrals, as necessary, to the Counseling Center, Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FASAP), outside counseling services and domestic violence resources, etc.

Partner with the Office of General Counsel, the Counseling Center, Employee Relations, Student Conduct, University Police and other key stakeholders to ensure comprehensive case management.

Partner with external community agencies and law enforcement, as appropriate.

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s degree in social work, mental health, psychology, counselor education or other relevant degree

Three years of related work experience post independent license.

Departmental Required Skills

1 to 2 years of experience conducting violence risk assessments and/or threat assessments and developing management strategies.

Experience developing and implementing training curriculum on topics such as, suicide prevention, workplace violence, domestic violence awareness, child abuse, classroom behavior management and dealing with difficult customers/employees.

Experience in developing outreach marketing materials.

Experience providing services at the University level in a diverse environment.

Case management experience.

Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and SPSS or similar software.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Data and records management skills.

Knowledge and understanding of violence prevention and intervention techniques and a strong theoretical and practical understanding of interpersonal violence.

Ability to work collaboratively with multiple campus and community organizations.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Certified Threat Manager

Relevant licensure, such as LSW, LCSW, or LPC, and violence risk assessment experience.

Experience working in a higher education setting is preferred.

Required License or Certification

Valid DL required.
A valid North Carolina driver’s within 60 days of start date.
