Basic Function

The individual in this position will provide coordination of mental health and behavior support services for students identified at risk with concerning behavior. The individual will work closely with campus CARE teams and the college Threat Assessment Team to implement intervention plans for identified students; act as the primary liaison with community mental health agencies; develop campus specific mental health resources for the College; provide outreach/educational seminars to the college community; and facilitate greater assistance to the needed members of the NOVA community.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Advise campus CARE teams and the College Threat Assessment Team in formulating intervention plans for identified students
-Follow up and track referrals for individuals of concern in the Maxient database
-Coordinate academic and support services for identified students on designated campuses
-Provide mental health consultation to campus CARE teams, College Threat Assessment Team, and community mental health providers
-Work closely with college police, deans of students, conduct officers, student services personnel and CARE teams
-Provide outreach/educational seminars as needed and/or requested, to include PUP, orientations, faculty convocations, and HR professional development
-Maintain and update NOVACares provider database

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in social work or counseling psychology or related field; demonstrated experience in crisis intervention and in working with severe psychopathology; demonstrated experience and/or familiarity with community mental health agencies; demonstrated experience in related or similar resource development.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed professional in social work or psychology/counseling. Minimum of 5 years experience in case management. Knowledge of behavioral intervention team operations; solution-focused approach to student care; demonstrated interest in and experience working with college students, including diverse and/or underrepresented college student populations. Threat/Risk assessment experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to manage projects that involve complex health issues; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with college faculty and staff; possess excellent written and oral communication skills; be skilled in the area of cultural sensitivity in the college setting and possess leadership skills as well as work as part of a team. Knowledge of relevant laws pertaining to student health and wellness, to include Clery, FERPA, Title IX, and Virginia violence prevention. Understanding threat/risk assessment strategies and principles. Knowledge of threat assessment and/or risk assessment principles, laws, and strategies.
