DescriptionThe Sr. ResearchAssociate within the College of Public Health’s (CPH) Department ofEpidemiology and Biostatistics will provide full-time support to carry outexternally-funded grant studies and other research projects/activities of Dr.Resa M. Jones, the Principal Investigator (PI). This position will support aculture of high performance in a fast-paced environment by performing multipleadvanced administrative functions requiring comprehensive knowledge, skills andexperience. The position will be primarily responsible for the day-to-dayoversight and supervision of several research projects.


Specifically,this position will serve as the Sr. Research Associate for research examiningthe behavioral and biological determinants of cancer in the general andunderserved populations including assessing the predictors and barriers ofcolorectal cancer screening and evaluating interventions to increase screeningbehavior and determining the role of various exposures (e.g., environmental andsocial determinants), socio-economics, and health disparities on cancer-relatedoutcomes.  The person will work closely with the PI to provide leadershipand day-to-day management of projects including effective communication withthe lead investigators, project stakeholders, other researchers collaboratorsand as well as management of staff. The person will be expected to: monitor andmanage the day-to-day project activities and staff to ensure timely progressand compliance with study protocols and human subjects regulations.  Theperson will participate in strategic planning for long-term research goals. Theperson will coordinate and plan all meetings of the grants’ SteeringCommittee/Advisory Group and Analytic Teams.  The person will communicatewith research participants and manage study participant incentives. They willalso create databases and analytical files and conduct analyses of longitudinaland cross sectional data. The person will also participate in manuscriptpreparation and be responsible for progress reports for the IRB and funders(e.g., NCI).


Additionally,the Sr. Research Associate will serve as the projects’ principle administrativeliaison for collaborating agencies and/or institutions. They will also overseeand coordinate the provision of administrative and research staff services,including the supervision of research assistants, and develop and maintainrecord keeping systems and procedures as appropriate. The person will also willbe responsible for hiring as well as supervising and training coordination forresearch staff. Assistance in grant development also falls under the purview ofthe Sr. Research Associate, as well as other duties as assigned. The incumbentwill report and be accountable to the PI. Performs other duties as assigned.


RequiredEducation & Experience:

Master’sDegree in Epidemiology or similar field with 2 years of experience inepidemiologic research and population-based behavioral intervention studiesincluding: intervention implementation, survey design, primary data collection,database creation and management, analysis of longitudinal data andcross-sectional data (i.e., qualitative and quantitative). An equivalent combinationof education and experience may be considered.

*Knowledgeof Federal and State regulations and ethical guidelines related to humansubjects research in both community and medical settings.

*Experienceworking with IRB and human subjects documentation.

*Experienceworking with research participants including previous experience communicatingwith potential study participants to determine and inform of study eligibilityis strongly desired.

*Experiencewith or demonstrated knowledge of primary care practice is highly desired.

*Must beproficient with MS Office suite and SAS and have a working knowledge ofcomputer programs including MS Access and other similar programs. Experiencewith MS Project and Atlas.ti is desired.

*Must beable to maintain subject confidentiality

*Experienceworking collaboratively and effectively with an interdisciplinary team

*Must beable to work independently

*Must bereliable and punctual



*Master’s ofPublic Health degree with focus in Epidemiology or Biostatistics or Master’s ofScience in Epidemiology or similar field.

*Five yearsof experience in epidemiology research and population-based behavioralintervention studies including: intervention implementation, survey design,primary data collection, database creation and management, analysis oflongitudinal data and cross-sectional data (i.e., qualitative andquantitative).
