DescriptionThe Friedman and HNRCA Development and Alumni Relations office, located in Boston, supporting the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, is looking for an Assistant Director of Alumni Relations.

The Assistant Director will oversee all aspects of the Friedman School’s alumni relations program, while working closely with the Director of Annual Giving to develop annual strategies and implement plans for engaging this population. This position will recruit, train, inspire, and lead volunteers for fundraising and outreach activities, such as, directing the activities of the school's Alumni Association, including managing its committees and regional alumni chapters or working with Student Council on student/alumni networking activities. This person will manage all the department's alumni events, taking the lead on all logistics (for example, Reunion, national conference receptions, and educational forums) and communications vehicles. This role will work closely with department staff members to manage budgets, partner with other school or Advancement departments, and develop new programs that engage the school's graduates.

The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University is the first graduate school of nutrition in the US. From bench science to policy, the Friedman School educates tomorrow’s leaders, and affects change today, from famine relief, physical health and obesity, to investigating the nutrients important for our health. The Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA) is the largest center in the world focusing on the links between nutrition and healthy aging. The Office of Development and Alumni Relations seeks to develop and maintain substantive relationships with alumni, students, corporate contacts, parents and friends in order to raise the significant philanthropic funds required to meet the School and Center’s endowment, capital and annual giving needs. 

QualificationsBasic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years knowledge and experience in alumni relations, volunteer management or advancement setting.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, superior organizational skills, and a customer service orientation.
  • Experience managing volunteers, committees, and event logistics.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Travel will be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of alumni relations/constituent relations experience in a university, other non-profit or comparable field.
  • A background in marketing or communications and/or fundraising experience.
  • Interest in the health sciences.
  • Experience with complex databases, such as BSR Advance.
