Job Summary:Data Warehouse Specialist

Under general direction of the Manager, Business Intelligence & Enterprise Data Warehouse, the Data Warehouse Specialist applies skills as a seasoned, experienced data warehousing professional in close collaboration with the student success project (Compass) team, Office of the Vice Provost of Teaching and Learning, Office of Institutional Research, and other campus offices to enhance the Student Data Warehouse in support of the Compass project. This data warehouse effort incorporates operational and transactional data from a variety of sources to provide operational data stores and dimensionally modeled data repositories, in support of ad-hoc analysis, reporting, displaying of key performance indicators (KPIs), projections and what-if modeling at the campus, school and departmental levels.

Duties include documenting technical requirements; developing, extending and maintaining dimensional database schemas; developing, implementing and maintaining extract-transform-load (ETL) processes, and ensuring that security and data integrity standards are met for all developed content.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education and community service goals of the University. The OIT Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse team is responsible for the design, development, deployment, documentation, ongoing maintenance and support of the enterprise data warehouse (EDW) and decision support for the campus. The EDW is the centerpiece of the campus reporting and analytics strategy, facilitating decision making at all levels.

The COMPASS (Comprehensive Analytics for Student Success) project is a cross-functional initiative focused on undergraduate student success. The project draws on staff within the Office of the Vice Provost of Teaching and Learning, the Office of Institutional Research, and the Office of Information Technology in strong partnership with the directors of undergraduate academic advising in each school, as well as academic administrators throughout the University. COMPASS is focused on providing reports & tools to allow for greater flexibility in student data retrieval and analysis, leading to faster turnaround on key student support actions including intervention and outreach. Reports are also provided for faculty and academic administrators.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
Total Hours: 8-5, M-F

Contract Position. This is a one year contract appointment position with the possibility of additional year contract appointment extensions. Per the University of California (UC) recruitment policy, because this position has undergone competitive recruitment, this position can be converted to career status any time after hire, as conversion meets criteria set by UC recruitment policy and the needs of the Office of Information Technology department.
