Departmental Overview
This position involves a wide range of student services duties and responsibilities for an academic department/school/college or organization. Provides assistance to the dean/chair, faculty, and students in academic advising, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, the evaluation and awarding of fellowships and block grant funds, student orientation and events, career counseling, and related programs.
Responsibilities
50% Academic Advising: Applying professional Student Services concepts, provides a full range of student services to graduate students in programs at the School of Information. Delivers advice and assistance to students on academic and degree progress, major requirements, and course selection, schedule, and sequencing. Serves as the first point of contact for student advising through walk-in and scheduled appointments, email, phone, and video conferencing as relevant. Assists students with identifying, navigating, and accessing student resources and campus services. Helps provide traditional campus resources and services to nontraditional students in online master's programs.
15% Campus Communication: Monitors enrollment and prepares materials advertising courses with available seats to appropriate student populations across campus in order to maximize enrollment. Maintains excellent communication with colleagues in other departments and campus.
10% Student Government Support: Develops new student government initiatives and maintains relationships with student government. Facilitates recruitment for MIDS student representatives three times per year; coordinates Student Affairs staff and student representatives from all School of Information graduate programs; maintains and develops an online presence for student organizations.
10% Financial Aid: Participates in the processing, evaluation, and awarding of student fellowships, grants, and other awards; advises students on financial aid options.
10% Events: Plans and implements student-related events and activities in coordination with student leadership and external relations staff as needed.
5% Development: Develop and participate in staff development, including working on special programs as assigned, attending classes which will enhance expertise in job areas, serve on departmental and campus-wide committees as appropriate, and participate in activities that enhance the campus community and/or larger community to further University service.

*The hourly salary range designated for this position: $22.00 - $29.00; however, starting salary is commensurate with experience.
*This position is 80% Full-Time Equivalent.
*This is an eight-month, contract position. Contract positions may be extended based on operational demand. Contract positions are eligible to participate in the health and welfare programs offered by UC Berkeley.
