Departmental Overview
The University of California, Berkeley is the preeminent public university in the country and one of the leading employers in the Bay Area. The Career Center at UC Berkeley is a dynamic team, providing innovative and comprehensive career services. The Center works with a wide spectrum of customers including all UC Berkeley undergraduates, a large number of graduate students, and recent alumni.

There are 7 staff members on the Employer Relations team in the Career Center. The team manages a very high volume of recruitment activity, including up to 15 career fairs per year and over 200 employers conducting on campus interviews. Employer Relations staff work with Career Center counseling team members to coordinate and facilitate approximately 20 Career Connections networking events each year.

Responsibilities
OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Director, Employer & Alumni Engagement is a position that develops and delivers engagement activities for students and alumni employers that lead to internship and full time opportunities for students. By forming and fostering strong collaborative relationships with employers, alumni and staff, this enables the Career Center to serve as the catalyst in creating new connections and competitive job opportunities for students. This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Employer Relations.
  • Designs, coordinates and facilitates approximately 20 on-campus and off-campus Career Connections networking events to connect alumni and students for students' career development.
  • Works with the alumni associations to strategically leverage alumni from targeted industries.
  • Schedules and attends relationship-building meetings with alumni employers, both on and off-site.
  • Establishes new relationships with employers related to specialized constituencies. Promotes partnerships and enhances the campus's relationships with outside organizations.
  • Consults with employers to advise them about optimal recruiting strategies.
  • Co-manages the Career Center's Student Organization Partner Program. Works with student organizations and campus partners to increase participation of students (undergraduate and graduate level) and alumni in engagement activities.
  • Utilizes and manages online resources, such as LinkedIn, list-servs and social media mechanisms, in addition to print material, to support the outreach needed to bring students and internship employers together.
  • Plans and facilitates several career fairs and forums
  • Develops expertise in Handshake or equivalent career management platform and makes recommendations for optimal use of the platform to employers, students, campus stakeholders, and Career Center staff.
  • Researches, evaluates, and updates specialized, written career and educational resources for the purpose of educating employers, alumni and students about optimal recruiting strategies.
  • Utilizes knowledge of constituency needs to create and improve specialized content for the Career Center website.
  • Researches internship and employment market trends.
  • Develops assessment surveys and conducts ongoing needs assessments. Evaluates and assesses success of initiatives and generates reports.
  • Collaborates with staff, faculty and other members of the University community from colleges and schools, student service units and student organizations regarding strategic design and development of resources, programs and workshops.

    Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience and training.
  • Experience with event planning and marketing communications
  • Knowledge of delivering career-related events and programs with a focus on internships and externships.
  • Knowledge of job market trends and occupational, career and employment information sources.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating data and assessment reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, employers, and alumni.
  • Ability to interact with diverse student, alumni and employer populations.
  • Strong understanding of the working nature of technology within a large administrative operation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Advanced service orientation, organizational and teamwork skills, and attention to detail.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with or knowledge of employer relations and recruiting activity.
  • Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations.
  • Experience using Handshake career management system.

    Salary & Benefits
    Salary is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is $75,000-$85,000/annual.
