Departmental Overview
International House is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, self-supporting residential and community-oriented program center located in the southeast foothills of the Berkeley Campus. Since its founding in 1930 with a gift from John D. Rockefeller, Jr., it has housed more than 90,000 residents including two Governors of California and eight Nobel Prize laureates. Its mission is to foster intercultural respect and understanding among people throughout the world across cultural, economic, and ethnic lines. I-House provides nearly 1,100 students and scholars from the United States and around the world with an opportunity to live and learn together. I-House's rich array of programs serves the residents, the campus and local community

The Events Department supports all I-House programs and departments which serves approximately 600 residents, over 3500 international students and scholars, and produces over 1200 events annually for the general public, community organizations, campus departments, student groups along with members and residents of the International House, Berkeley.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Events Manager, the Events Coordinator supervises student staff who provide comprehensive public event management services; plans and implements contracts for events, facilitates logistical arrangements, recruits, hires, create weekly schedules, train and complete payroll and hiring transactions.

  • Provides logistical, scheduling and planning support to the I-House Program Office.

  • Meets with clients to facilitate and implement specialized public events; facilitates all logistics for in-house and public events. Plan and arrange the rental of public rooms and operation of audio-visual equipment.

  • Confers with broad based constituencies regarding logistics, guest lists, room selection, vendors, event goals and objectives, etc. Serves as event consultant as needed for in-house events.

  • Weekly billing of clients, internal communication of event schedules to relevant departments, book and supervise master guestrooms and equipment inventory.

    Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent experience/training. A typical combination would include graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field, plus a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience in events management in an event planning role.

  • Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and production and public relations.

  • Working knowledge of the campus, its programs, policies, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.

  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal communication skills and political acumen, including skill in effectively representing I-House to its constituencies; i.e., campus and public clients.

  • Good judgment and effective decision-making and problem resolution skills, including skill to recognize and deal effectively and appropriately with real and potential problem areas, including skill to determine the issues/problems that need to be brought to the attention of higher level staff and/or management.

  • Excellent customer service skills, mature judgment and the ability to interact with people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office. Familiarity with events management and/or hotel reservation software a plus.

  • Must be able to occasionally move or lift up 50 pounds and perform repetitive hand movement. Position will require some evening and weekend work.

    Salary & Benefits
    $50,400.00 - $72,800.00 annual salary (commensurate with experience)
