Job Summary:

JobDescription:
To serve as aninstructor for the Police Science degree program. Continuous assignment basedon program need and funding availability. To develop in each student the skills of critical thinking and to help students learn the subject matter presented to them in order for that student to become a positive member of the community.

Essential Job Functions:

Knowledge in Police operations, procedures, and functions. Function under the direction of the program director.Maintain student and course records.Maintain and file current course outlines, objectivesand grading procedures for all courses.Prepare for classes, help dismantle and clean up after class activities.Provide leadership and positive role modeling for students.Attend annual program meeting.Participate in the assessment of student learning annual report.Completes all mandatory training.Perform other duties as assigned.The duties listed in this jobdescription are intended only as illustrations of the various types of workthat may be performed. Associate’s Degree

Work Experience:
Minimum of 3 - 5 years field experience as a Police Officer.

Certifications:

  • Current CLEET certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to educate and assist students with learning of the various skills necessary for Police Science education. Ability to evaluate student performance. Ability to conduct formative and summative assessment of student learning.Ability to create and maintain a positive learning environment, displaying and requiring professionalism in all classroom activities.Ability to work collaboratively with law enforcement agency representatives on meeting program goals and learning outcomes. Ability to adapt and apply various teaching methods, practices and techniques.Ability to follow health and safety procedures and regulations.Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.Ability to adapt to curriculum and programmatic changes.Ability to update and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, and other course materials.Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalismEvidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous teaching experience or field training. Experience in education technology, simulation technology, or related area. Familiarity with the skills and practices associated with the police profession. Bachelor’s Degree Basic CLEET Instructor Field Training Officer

Working Conditions:

Work will be performed in an office, classroom and outdoor environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone and via email.Position may require work during evening hours to meet program goals and student educational/learning needs

Physical Requirements:

Instructor will perform duties inside structures, outdoors, and simulations. Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usageMust be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting up to 75 lbs. unassisted, bending, standing, climbing or walking. Any items weighting more than 45 lbs. must be team lifted per OSU safety regulations.
