Job Description

The Coordinator of First-Year Experience, under general supervision, organizes and manages various programs and services within the Office of First-Year Experience, serving the students of Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates events and programs for students and the campus community around the Common Experience.
  • Collaborates with faculty/staff/departments in support of student programming efforts.
  • Serves on the Common Read Working Group that is responsible for selecting the Common Read.
  • Oversees the common read nomination process; including but not limited to marketing, selection review, and coordination with the publishing companies.
  • Assists in the development, design, coordination, and implementation of the Faculty Advising Program which pair’s current faculty with incoming, first-year students.
  • Serve as a liaison to faculty who are participating in the Faculty Advising Program with the budget process, event planning and/or connecting to campus resources.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, and development of the faculty advising participants.
  • Supports the development and assessment of goals and student learning outcomes for the Common Experience and the Faculty Advising program.
  • Coordinates the development of various departmental reports.
  • Support the development and management of the annual budget.
  • Assist in the development of the comprehensive peer leader program from the theoretical foundation, outcomes and goals of the program, to the recruitment, selection, training, and on-going development of the Peer Leader team. 
  • Manage timesheet review and approval process.
  • Maintain website and social media platforms for the First-Year Experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field
  • Three years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications. Knowledge of basic accounting.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
