Assistant Director of Online Learning

This is an internal posting only - for current FLCC employees.

The Assistant Director of Online Learning is the main contact point to our online students. Daily meetings with students regarding technical issues, instructor issues, advising questions, and general student support will be required. This position works closely with the Instructional Designer in designing exemplary student experiences for our online population. Monthly meetings with Open SUNY Concierge group and with Open SUNY Early Alerts group will be required. This position will work closely with the One-Stop Center, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Advising, and academic departments to ensure that students are receiving all available services when they need them.

1. Qualifications:

A. Educational Background: Master’s Degree in Education, or related area required.

B. Experience: Required: Three years’ experience with online learning and working with students at a distance. Experience advising students for at least two years. Two years’ experience working with Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle. Two years’ experience working with Student Information Systems such as Banner, Colleague, or PeoplesSoft. One-year experience working with Starfish or similar student retention systems. One-year experience with online tutoring systems. Preferred: Demonstrated ability to work closely with students and support them with all issues they may encounter in the enrollment process. Four years of advising experience, ability to work with students in various formats, online, phone, in-person. Ability to support students in Blackboard with course issues that may arise. Strong background in troubleshooting technical issues.

2. Essential Functions:

  1. Execute a communication plan to facilitate student registration, academic success and building community for students taking online courses. Continuously update web resources to support success in online student programs.
  • Implement online orientation events for students using the Learning Management system. These students may be online or face-to-face.
  • Facilitate direct support operations during opening days of the semester.
  • Maintain a social presence to increase retention in online courses and programs. Work with the director to implement degree completion programs and adult learning support programs.
  • Support hybrid courses by attending face-to-face meetings at the beginning of the semester to help students understand the responsibilities and expectations of hybrid learning models.
  • Provide support for students using third party online software in their online classes.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of online pedagogy.
  • H. Provide secondary technical support for students in both online and face-to-face courses that utilize the Learning Management System.I. Collaborate with other members of the college community to maintain both the pedagogical and technical requirements of the LMS to ensure effective delivery of course materials.J. Support internal professional development initiatives that require online delivery.K. Work with the college academic division to implement a campus based assessment policy and support all efforts therein.L. Assist in service area assessment process for online learning.M. Assume the responsibilities of the Director in their absence.N. Inventory and maintain department hardware including all laptops and peripherals.O. Perform any other duties necessary for the effective function of the department as assigned.

    The starting salary is $47,565 and commensurate with experience.
