Position Summary:

The UW-Madison Office of Admissions and Recruitment invites applications for the Admissions Counselor position from those seeking a fast-paced, mission-driven professional recruitment and admission counseling position. Admissions counselors represent the university to all prospective undergraduate populations, specializing in the freshmen recruitment, application review, and enrollment cycle. Counselors are integral to the success of our office and receive a comprehensive generalist orientation and training program as well as opportunities to specialize in various aspects of the admissions profession.

Please note that a complete application includes three items: cover letter, resume, and contact information for three professional references. All three pieces of the application must be saved into one document for submission.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-- Successful candidates will have prior experience in college admissions or a closely related office such as campus tours, orientation, or other direct work with student outreach and enrollment.
-- Preferably, candidates will have two or more years of related experience after their bachelor's degree is conferred.
-- Candidates with experience evaluating applications through a holistic, selective admissions process, and/or experience recruiting undergraduate students to a four-year institution are ideal.
-- Successful candidates will be ready to join a large, dynamic, and fast-paced office environment, and committed to contributing to a team-driven office while taking pride in the work assigned to them. Additionally, successful candidates will present the following:
-- Demonstrated attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
-- Proven ability to work with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
-- Work experience that communicates a history of creativity, independent work, success in a team environment, and the ability to exercise sound judgment.
-- Strong oral and written communications skills, public speaking experience, and excellent customer service skills.
-- Strong facility with the use of computers, office software applications, and database systems.
-- Ability to travel both locally and outside of the state.
-- Evening and weekend work required during peak times.

License or Certificate:

This position involves travel. A valid driver's license is required to operate a state vehicle. Incumbents must be able to operate a state vehicle or provide his/her own transportation.

Additional Information:

These full-time academic staff positions are available with a desired begin date of September 1, 2019. A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered, with title and salary dependent on qualifications. The minimum starting salary is $40,000.
