The School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Department of Clinical Studies – New Bolton Center invites applications for a faculty position in Anesthesia in the Academic Clinician Track.

New Bolton Center is located in a rural setting in scenic Pennsylvania Hunt Country, approximately 35 miles southwest of the main University Campus in Philadelphia. The anesthesia/surgical patient population of the New Bolton Center Hospital for Large Animals is one of the highest worldwide with approximately 1,400 animals being anesthetized each year for a wide variety of procedures. The Section of Anesthesia at New Bolton Center with its two anesthesiologists and three anesthesia technicians is currently involved in a vibrant and steadily expanding research and education program involving collaborations with faculty from other veterinary colleges and organizations as well as industries within and outside of North America.

Clinical responsibilities include primary anesthesia care, supervision of anesthetic management of animal patients and research animals, as well as participation in the after hours anesthesia rotation. The majority of clinical time will be spent at New Bolton Center's Hospital for Large Animals; however, a minor component of clinical activity may also include services at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital for Companion Animals and delivery of anesthesia at zoos and animal parks in the surrounding area. The candidate is expected to participate in the academic program of the section, including didactic and laboratory teaching of veterinarians, students, interns, residents, and technicians. The candidate offered the position in the Academic Clinician track shall focus on the clinical and teaching component of the appointment, however, is encouraged also to participate in collaborative clinical research in areas of interest. The effort devoted to scholarly activity will depend on the research interests of the candidate and the faculty track in which the candidate is enrolled.


Qualifications:

Requirements include a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree and board certification in anesthesiology in either the ACVAA or ECVAA. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
