Job Description

CLASSIFICATION:Non-exempt
UNION:Support & Technical
REPORTS TO:Supervisor, Print Services and Mail Room
PLACEMENT: Support staff, grade 4
MINIMUM PAY RATE:$14.53 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible to the full-time lead of the Mail Center, processes incoming, outgoing and campus mail, and performs associated tasks.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Sort incoming USPS and interoffice mail.
2.Deliver interoffice and USPS mail to all extended campuses using a college vehicle.
3.Deliver morning and afternoon Main Campus interoffice and USPS mail.
4.Handle phones, provide exceptional customer service and requested information.
5.Understand and operate mailing equipment, folding machines, and prepare bar-coded labels.
6.Sort and package outgoing college First Class and bulk mail.
7.Seal and prepare outgoing and interoffice mail for delivery which includes weighing, calculating and affixing correct postage.
8.Provide special service forms, sell stamps and money orders to college personnel and deposit money at post office.
9.Maintain balanced USPS stamp stock and cash drawer, and required mailing records and files.
10.Provide USPS special service forms and packing, sell stamps and money orders.
11.Assume duties of full time mail clerk when that person is not available.
12.Provide backup coverage for Print Services Clerk when necessary.
13.Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.High school diploma or equivalent.
2.Three (3) months of related experience.
3.Valid Illinois driver’s license and good driving record.
4.Ability to lift mail bags weighing up to 50 lbs.
5.Strong personal computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
6.Ability to calculate change, count money.
7.Ability or willingness to learn how to use a postage machine, electronic scale, and related equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Previous mail processing experience.
2.Familiarity with Joliet Junior College departments.
3.Strong familiarity with City of Joliet and surrounding area roads. Familiarity with city of Joliet and surrounding areas and streets.
4.Valid Driver’s License

WORK SCHEDULE
1.Monday thru Friday
2.Up to 28 hours per week

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1.Ability to lift mail bags, packages and sacks, trays and tubs of mail weighing up to 50 lbs.
2.Must bend, stoop and kneel frequently.
3.Must be able to spend a large part of the day standing up, moving around and walking the campus to deliver the mail.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1.Duties are performed indoors in the usual post office environment.

Internal candidates must adhere to the terms of employment regarding length of time in current position as outlined in their union contract.

They also contain information about crime statistics for the three previous years for all JJC campuses, property owned and controlled by JJC District 525 and on public property immediately adjacent to JJC campuses.
This information is required by law and is made available by the Joliet Junior College Police Department.
