Position Summary

This Research Associate position entails working on a project that will involve contemporary molecular techniques, such as aptamer selection, recombinant protein synthesis, PCR, mutagenesis, cell culture systems, molecular cloning, sequencing, fluorimetric assay development and dual color confocal microscopy, as well as traditional microbiological methodologies. In addition, you will be exposed to a variety of other experimental approaches currently available in our laboratory. These studies are important for developing an antemortem diagnostic protocol and will be useful for developing intervention strategies for bovine tuberculosis. A direct biomedical application of these studies will be in the development of tools to study and understand the pathogenesis of this intractable disease, biomarkers of response to treatment as well as identification of vaccine targets.

Minimum Requirements

Experience in epidemiology, microbiology, and molecular biology is required. Prior experience in tuberculosis biology, protein preparation, running Western blots, and some basic cell culture techniques are essential. Written and oral skills as demonstrated by prior publications/presentations are required. Basic willingness to interact and work with a team of skilled individuals is desirable.
