Position Summary

The Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program seeks a Communications Manager to be responsible for organizing and overseeing the creation of promotional materials and brand identity for the BLD Program educational offerings, events and activities through the development, design, creation and production of various mediums (paper, electronic, video, web, etc.). The ideal communications manager is a team player, able to work in a fast-paced environment with faculty and staff. The position requires the ability to meet deadlines, time management skills, attention to details and proofreading skills. This role will provide cross platform design services for multiple mediums and audiences using industry standard tools combining still images, sound, text, video and animation for use in varied content management systems. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, with an emphasis on the use of Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator is required. The communications manager will also help manage BLD social media, assist with web design, email marketing, and other outreach activities. Core skills for this position include:

  • Plans creates, produces photographs, edits, records or drafts releases and feature materials for digital communications, media and publications relevant to the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program’s online course offerings, undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to produce video and audio for podcasts, advertisements, etc.
  • Help plan and execute the overall growth and engagement strategies for social media.
  • Executes innovative social media and email marketing campaigns to support traditional media and advertising activities to promote BLD events and educational offerings.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college program in Journalism, Communications, Telecommunications, Marketing or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; or radio production; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
