Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

Position is needed to help support research and cultivar development of the forage and biomass breeding and genetics program. Position is grant funded/limited term for 1 to 2 years.

This new position will help support research and cultivate development of the forage and biomass breeding and genetics program. Activities will involve laboratory/greenhouse/field research participation; supervision of temporary workers; as well as logistics and data management. The individual will conduct and manage research activities related to the forage and biomass breeding program. In coordination with other technical staff and graduate students, the individual will be responsible for executing program activities. The position will plan, conduct, and manage research studies; collect, manage and analyze data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Knowledge of agriculture, biology, or breeding research. Area-specific training will be provided as appropriate. The candidate should also be able to work independently to perform a variety of lab/greenhouse work techniques, manage data sets, coordinate multiple tasks, and supervise hourly employees. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Demands

Work outdoors in various environmental conditions including heat or cold temperatures, travel around the state, multi-task and work independently with minimum supervision.

The position will be in charge of executing and managing with the other program technical staff and graduates students greenhouse research activities. This includes planting populations, tissue sampling, making crosses manually or in bee cages, harvesting seed and maintaining the greenhouse in a clean and operational manner. The role will also be responsible for leading laboratory studies to generate sequence and molecular data for GWAS and genomic prediction of breeding values.

The position will be in charge of preparing and coordinating field research activities including planting field experiments at several locations around GA, managing/monitoring field plots, and taking field notes and samples.

With the help of other technical staff/students of the program, the position will collect, manage and analyze data using appropriate software.
