Applying professional Student Services concepts, provides the full range of student services to student population served by the law school:
  • Meet with students to discuss academic needs and/or personal challenges
  • Refer students to the campus Disabled Students' Program (DSP), review and discuss implementation of letters of accommodations;
  • Work directly with students who receive accommodations through DSP to implement at the law school, including classroom and exam accommodations
  • Draft communications as needed, and serve as liaison to law school faculty at direction of the Senior Director of Student Services;
  • Work with the Student Services Coordinator and Exam Administrator and Facilities Department to schedule and coordinate exam accommodations;
  • Serve as the primary contact for non-emergency exam and other accommodations;
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Student Services to implement support for students experiencing personal or medical emergencies;
  • Maintain filing system and database for students with disabilities receiving accommodations;
  • Liaise with DSP to effectively support students given accommodation request and institutional needs.
  • Collaborate with DSP Alternative Media, IS&T, and Media Services to address student adaptive technology needs and issues;
  • Partner with the appropriate campus office(s) and Facilities Department to facilitate resolution of campus accessibility issue;
  • Facilitate outreach to students regarding resources and accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Within Berkeley Law provides, and makes recommendations for the improvement of the following programs:

Academic Advising:
  • Advises faculty on the law school and university policies and procedures;
  • Reviews students' progress and advises students and faculty on requirements for degree/program completion;
  • Identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions;
  • Devises curriculum planning in collaboration with Dean of Law and faculty, and with other departments.

Events:
  • Plans and implements complex, high-visibility student events, such as commencements.
  • Coordinates accommodation process for Orientation and Commencement including addressing access for graduates (parking, ramps, clear paths); providing accessibility for guests such as reserved seating, wheelchairs, etc.;
  • Responds to student emergencies as directed;
  • Manages non-emergency food allergy accommodations and issues of accessibilities including seating and other activities for students.

Career Counseling:
  • Advises Berkeley Law students on the job market process, and the standards and norms specific to the student's field of study.
  • Plans, designs, and provides workshops for students, such as information about the campus, or academic strategies and enrichment programs.

  • Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge of the legal framework involving accommodations for students with disabilities through state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of procedures for assessing and determining disability accommodation issues
  • Knowledge of assessment, accommodation, and intervention techniques for students with disabilities.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
  • Ability in problem identification, reasoning.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills needed to work with faculty and other campus entities regarding a student's accommodations and other academic needs.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to apply logic and sensitivity while responding rapidly during student crises.
  • Knowledge of the field's post-degree employment opportunities and practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area, such as Legal Studies, Counseling, or Education, and/or equivalent experience/training.
