Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions

This Assistant Reference Librarian position is responsible for working with other librarians on ordering and maintaining 10-15% of the print collection. This position also helps staff the reference desk and assists in planning, developing, and conducting approximately 20% of library instruction, both on main campus and at learning centers; conducts faculty and student outreach; and works with faculty on identifying OER materials.

Creating and maintain Research Guides for courses and programs as well as individual courses in various areas is performed by the assistant librarian in this position. Our online reference services (email, chat, text, and a Book a Librarian) are becoming more popular. and this position works with the online reference services as well as face to face.

Recent additions to job duties are becoming a librarian embedded into a course and assisting faculty with locating Open Educational Resources (OER).

As the library increases our presence both on the main campus and at the centers and also our technology, it becomes increasingly more important to staff this part-time assistant librarian position.

Additional duties and responsibilities of the position:

  • Assist librarians with collection development (print, e-books, periodicals, and databases)
  • Assist librarians in planning, developing, and conducting library instruction
  • Staff the reference desk and support students/faculty/staff with research
  • OER resource identification
  • Faculty and student outreach
  • Promote information literacy
Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from ALA accredited program. Will consider current MLIS students if MLIS degree is received by January 2020.
