Position Description:

This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (10 Months) Tenure Track position as Case Manager in the Division of Counseling & Matriculation, assigned to Student Health Center located at San Jose City College.

Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.

This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.


1. Assess the psychological needs of students and develop an appropriate plan of action.

2. Provide direct crisis management services to students in distress.

3. Assist college faculty and staff with non-crisis student related issues when behaviors present in the classroom disrupt the classroom or indicate a student with psychological issues.

4. Oversee case management/support coordination process with appropriate on and off campus entities.

5. Develop and establish relationships with community agencies and resources for the benefit of students.

6. Research national trends and implement safety and support programs for students.

7. Coordinate with student service programs on campus to ensure effective programs are in place that address identified student needs.

8. Collaborate with Student Conduct Officer, Title IX Coordinator, Campus Police, Student Health Services, and Psychological Services on campus.

9. Establish and coordinate the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) that will develop, facilitate and evaluate intervention programs, as well as problem solve disruptive student issues.

10. Provide mental health and wellness education training and outreach to students, staff, and faculty.

11. Develop intervention and support strategies to manage potentially harmful or disruptive behavior to protect the safety and rights of both the student and campus community.

12. Make recommendations to campus officials on appropriate actions consistent with district policies and procedures.

13. Develop incident reports, monthly departmental reports and statistical data.

14. Maintain flow of communication through planned implementation of an electronic behavior reporting system.

15. Utilize the district's computerized course prerequisite system.

16. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

17. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.

18. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.

19. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

20. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.

21. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.

22. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.

23. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.

24. Foster a professional work and learning environment.

25. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

1. Master’s in Clinical Psychology

Desired Qualifications:
1. Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker.

2. Possess demonstrated experience in crisis and behavior risk assessment.

3. Possess formal experience with crisis intervention and management.

4. Possess knowledge of community agencies and mental health resources.

5. Experience in planning and staffing Mental Health Outreach and Prevention activities.

6. Ability to lead individuals in team effort to sustain a healthy working environment.

7. Bilingual abilities (Vietnamese/English or Spanish/English) and multicultural experience desirable.

8. Formal and recent experience with crisis intervention and management.

9. Bilingual abilities, desirable.

    Salary Range:
    $73,052 to $100,279 Entry Level Annual Salary (Academic Salary Schedule 2018-2019); Maximum Salary Potential $130,110. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.
