The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Assistant to recruit and enroll research participants as specified in Air Force study protocol(s). The study site is Joint Base San Antonio, TX. The Research Assistant must be thoroughly knowledgeable of the assigned study protocol(s), procedures and all associated activities. Although not responsible for direct supervision of assigned project staff, the Research Assistant is responsible for collaborating with all study staff to successfully achieve the goals of the study, the principal investigator and the department in a timely manner. The Research Assistant has latitude to implement certain decisions independently in accordance with protocol and departmental guidelines, including (but not limited to) subject eligibility/suitability to participate. Many decisions are implemented after collaborating with the Program Director, Program Coordinators, Clinical Psychologist, and/or Principal Investigator, including (but not limited to) database management, data collection/reporting/tracking, protocol adherence/modification, participant scheduling/retention, and adverse event reporting. 

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree and one year of research experience OR a combination of college course work and military work experience may be considered. 

Experience consenting subjects and following a research study protocol is preferred. Military experience or association preferred, but not required. 

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time-management, verbal and written communication skills are required. The ability to make good clinical judgment is expected, as is the ability to function independently and as a member of a team with minimal supervision. The successful candidate must be able to obtain Human Subjects Protection and other applicable certifications within the first four weeks of employment. Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel are required. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse group of participants, staff and faculty, including public speaking to groups, is a must. 

These are restricted positions contingent upon the continued availability of funding. Positions will remain open until filled.
