Job TitleProgram Assistant (Child Care Program)Job Description

Under general supervision, perform work requiring knowledge of the Child Care Program. Provide program participants, staff and the public with information regarding policies and procedures of the Child Care Program. Coordinate special projects and activities that directly support the Child Care Program students and staff. Keep accurate records and databases for the purpose of mailings, attendance, student completion and budget monitoring for the Child Care Program. Assist in classrooms as needed.

Essential Duties Summary

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Act as a receptionist in the Child Care office; explaining and representing the program to perspective students, community members and professionals who inquire.
• Make attendance calls to families who are absent, keeping records of contacts and making referrals when necessary.
• File, sort and contact new referrals to Child Care.
• Maintain an accurate database of program participants.
• Organize and follow through on program mailings.
• Under the general direction of the Child Care Program Manager, coordinate Child Care Program events, orientations and activities.
• Create program fliers and newsletters.
• Use graphics and/or desktop publishing software in the creation of Child Care Program handbooks, classroom materials, grant proposals and other printed materials.
• Establish and maintain records and files, record statistical and evaluation information.
• Schedule appointments and meetings.
• Act as a resource person for enrolled and new students, as needed.
• Provide support for staff in the Child Care Program.
• May direct the work of others (student workers, ECE Aides) and arrange for substitutes as needed.
• Ability and training to be able to work in Child Care classrooms as care provider.
• Manage routine, daily schedules and tasks in the absence of Program Manager.
• Assist in monitoring of licensing requirements and ECEAP standards.
•Establishes positive relationships with staff, parents and children.
•Assists in program events
•Attends training classes
•Supports communication at the site assigned and within the program
•Enters and retrieves data from electronic data processing systems; establishes and updates information; generates documents and correspondence; communicates with others via electronic means; updates computer system files.
•May assist in the kitchen or classroom as a substitute
•Working hours/schedule may be subject to change due to program needs
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of full-time clerical experience

OR

equivalent education/experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual, experience with ProCare, licensed childcare, Early Achievers and ECEAP

ECE State Certificate or willing to participate in a Professional Development Plan to obtain within 5 years of employment.

One-year experience working in a child care program performing secretarial and child care duties.

Has knowledge of Centralia College programs, child care, and Registration; knowledge of the Child Care Program and an understanding of required paperwork; and sufficient education/training to work in classrooms as a child care provider

•Current First Aid and CPR training documentation;

There is currently one 10 month cyclic position in the Business, Teacher Education and Family Development Children’s Lab School. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.

Assuming there is a qualified pool of candidates, a minimum of 10 candidates may be referred to the hiring supervisor for consideration. Those selected for a final interview with the supervisor may be asked to demonstrate proficiency in appropriate areas.

The Region

The college is located in southwest Washington on the 1-5 corridor midway between Seattle and Portland, in a beautifully green area of forests and farmland. Wide fertile valleys are bordered by picturesque Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Range on the east, and the Willapa Hills on the west. Puget Sound and Hood Canal to the north and the Columbia River and famous Columbia River Gorge and Mount St. Helens to the south are within a short commute from the college. The populace enjoys the mild climate of the Pacific Northwest with low mean temperatures of 38 in January and a high mean of 78 in July.

Centralia College East

Centralia College East (CCEast), located in Morton, represents Centralia College's dedication to meeting educational needs of the residents of central and eastern Lewis County. CCEast provides registration services, educational advising and tutoring, Running Start, career counseling, assistance with financial aid, adult literacy tutoring, GED, T.E.E.N. program for pregnant and parenting teens, placement testing (COMPASS), and online access to Centralia College's library resources. Some classes connect CCEast students to the main campus via interactive television. The CCEast Organization of Students offers additional activities for students.

Garrett Heyns Education Center

The Garrett Heyns Education Center (GHEC) is located within the Washington Corrections Center, a medium security correctional facility situated on a 455-acre site three miles north of the city of Shelton. The Corrections Center is located 50 miles north of Centralia College's main campus and houses approximately 1,600 inmates. Centralia College has participated in an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections to provide educational services for offenders since 1975. GHEC is a branch campus of Centralia College.
