POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with the development and implementation of research protocols, participant recruitment and regulatory documentation.
  • Assess the health status of assigned study subjects. Review and interpret screening and diagnostic reports. Bring abnormalities to the attention of study M.D.s or the principal investigator. Manage coordinate and assume responsibility for activities of the assigned aspects of specific research protocols to ensure safe and competent care and effective protocol management.
  • Implement subject intake and schedule subjects for studies as needed.
  • Administer medications if needed per protocol.
  • Assess the health status of assigned subject- perform medical histories and physical examinations. Conduct medical procedures as needed including blood draws, ECGs and placement of ECGs for heart rate variability monitoring.
  • In collaboration with study physicians plan, implement, feedback to research participants and as needed communicate results to participants and with appropriate to consent to the participants health care providers.
  • Monitor participants to ensure that research protocol is being followed. Keeping accurate records documenting activities.
  • Complete case reports forms to ensure that data is detailed and accurate
  • Design and implement teaching plans for study subjects to meet learning needs in relation to treatment and research process.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • License to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in NYS is required.
  • Masters Degree and 5 yrs patient management experience in clinical research with an administrative leadership component is preferred
    • The individual is expected to establish and maintain effective communication with professional and ancillary personnel, and to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation.
    • Must be able to work with a research and clinical trials team including principal investigator, laboratory personnel, research coordinators as well as other physicians and scientist.
    • Use standards of good clinical practice.
    • Familiarity with database utilization, regulatory compliance and human subjects’ protection issues.
    • Must be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to change.

    Scope of Responsibility – This position will report to the Director of Neurology (Jessica Zwerling, MD) and to the study PI (Richard Lipton, MD). The position will interact with the study Neuropsychologist and research staff. The position has independence in clinical assistant with ready back-up from medical personnel.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will assess older adults using structured mental status examination and a clinical examination, independently or in autonomous collaboration with other health professionals. The NP is responsible for managing the assessment of patients, providing feedback to participants on medical and neurologic issues that arise from the assessment and providing information to the participants treating clinicians when appropriate. The NP is expected to establish and maintain effective communication with professional and ancillary personnel and ancillary personnel, and to demonstrate a high degree of self motivation. Must be able to work with several members of the study team at various locations as needed.
