Assistant Professor of Fire Science - Temporary Position

JOB SUMMARY: The Department of Fire Science (FS) at New Jersey City University invites applications for a full-time temporary faculty appointment at the assistant professor level for the academic year 2019-2020, commencing with the Fall 2019 semester.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will be required to teach both basic and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, candidates will be expected to develop new programs and course offerings at the undergraduate as well as master’s level for the Fire Science Department, and maintain an active and sustained research agenda in their respective field, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and presses.


REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should demonstrate experience with student-centered teaching, and teaching that incorporates collaborative and active learning strategies. Relevant teaching experience should also include the ability to teach online, blended, and face to face courses. Must have a willingness to travel to multiple off site locations. Applicants will need an ability to cultivate and effectively work with external constituencies and a commitment to diversity among faculty, staff and students.


EDUCATION: An earned doctoral degree in a discipline pertaining to or directly supporting the field of Fire Science is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess an active career with fire service experience at the rank of first line supervisor or above. Evidence of published works and presentations at professional meetings is preferred.
