General Summary

The Director is responsible for all aspects of program management for the Student Support Services program, a student retention program designed to improve baccalaureate completion for low-income and first generation participants. This includes grant compliance, coordination of programming, budget management, staff supervision and federal reporting. The Director works closely with the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management in developing program priorities and planning, budgets, research, federal and campus reporting and coordination with other units on campus.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Plan & implement major program objectives.
  • Monitor program information, budget & systems and provide reports to ensure compliance.
  • Advise student participants & deliver presentations & workshops.
  • Coordinate activities with other campus units & develop relationships with other institutions & TRIO programs.
  • Supervise staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master's degree.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all planning, operational and reporting decisions concerning Student Support Services, including hiring and supervising staff, deciding on program design and delivery and developing systems to monitor program activity and performance.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Annual budget of over $270,000 funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Director is responsible for all financial decisions made with grant dollars though typically consults with assistant vp for EM and/or OSPR in cases involving interpretation of policy.
  • Such questions may also be referred to the program officer at the Department of Education.

Other Skills & Abilities Reqd

  • Excellent communication, project management and organizational skills, familiarity with budgetary processes and intermediate database and word-processing skills in a Windows environment.
  • Understanding of curriculum, financial aid programs and external scholarship programs.
  • Ability to work collegially with administrators and faculty both in and beyond DePaul.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Department of Education regulations, performance criteria and reporting requirements.
  • Willingness and capacity to be engaged with relevant professional organizations and deliver conference presentations.
  • Experience with program planning, project management and student advising in a university context.
  • Experience with developing and implementing academic assistance programs at the university level.
  • Experience working with first generation and low-income students and/or TRIO programs.
  • Member of a group historically underrepresented in higher education an asset.
