Waubonseeis currently seeking a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Sociology with ademonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, diversity, equity and holisticstudent success to deliver a broad range of courses within the Sociology (SOC)curricular portfolio.

Theideal candidate will be responsible for teaching two to three course sectionsof SOC 100: Introduction to Sociology per semester, and will have the knowledgeand experience to teach SOC 120: Racial and Ethnic Relations, SOC 130:Sociology of Family and/or SOC 240: Sociology of Deviance. The candidate willdemonstrate experience with innovative and active learning strategies, theability to enhance the success of diverse student populations, a commitment togoing above and beyond traditional expectations to support students, and theability to effectively use instructional technology to enhance teaching andlearning in both classroom and online instruction.

Dutiesand expectations of this position include, but are not limited to:

Designingsyllabi, lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments that address theneeds of a diverse student population and that ensure that studentssuccessfully meet course objectives and outcomes.

Incorporating learning-centered principles and concepts and motivating studentsto participate actively in all aspects of the educational experience.

Demonstrating commitment to continuous improvement and ongoing professionalgrowth.

Workingcollaboratively with colleagues throughout the college to achieve equitableoutcomes for all students and to serve the needs of students and community.

Employinginstructional and classroom technology appropriately and effectively to deliverand enhance teaching and learning in online, hybrid and face-to-face courses.

Assisting in leading the Sociology department in the areas of curriculumdevelopment, student success initiatives, student advising, adjunct facultymentorship, assessment of student learning and support for student clubs andorganizations.

Participatingin divisional and college-wide committees and events.

Demonstratingexcellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills in theclassroom, and with colleagues.

Teachingassignment may include days, evenings and/or weekends at four campusesthroughout the district - Sugar Grove, Aurora Downtown, Aurora Fox Valley, andPlano. Courses may be offered in various delivery modes, i.e. face-to-face,online, and hybrid.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Sociology, or Master’s degree in a related field and 18 graduate credit hours in Sociology.
Two years teaching experience in Sociology.

PreferredQualifications:
Master’s degree in Sociology
Post-secondary teaching experience in Sociology
Experience teaching traditionally underserved populations
Experience teaching courses on the sociology of the family, race and ethnic relations, and deviance
Experience teaching online courses
