The Office of Advancement supports the mission of Georgetown University, its faculty, and students by developing relationships with key constituencies, connecting with alumni, and working with donors to help them know and understand opportunities for partnership with the university.

The Associate Director of Donor Relations and Engagement is responsible for coordinating and supporting the execution of campaign and regional engagement activity and events in the Northeast region to include the NY metro area, Boston metro area, Philadelphia metro area, etc. The position would work closely with the deployment and regional development teams to ensure engagement activity in the area is strategic, coordinated, and supported. The Associate Director acts as a knowledgeable ambassador, liaison, and engagement specialist to advancement personnel on the priorities, needs, and attributes of the area. The position would also provide cultivation and recognition assistance to individual donors and prospective donors in the Northeast.
This position is responsible for the continued meaningful involvement of Georgetown's top-level donors in the life of the university. It is only with a consistent level of high quality and thoughtful points of contact and engagement that these donors will continue to look to Georgetown as a place to give expression to their own values and philanthropic agendas. With such a concentration of donors in the Northeast, this position will have a vast knowledge of that region.
This position will oversee the deployment of university leaders to the Northeast region. This includes managing trips for the University President, Vice President for Advancement, and various Deans.
Additionally, the Associate Director of Donor Relations and Engagement reports directly to the Senior Director of Donor Relations. The position requires very close collaboration with the Managing Director of Development for the Northeast and the entire Northeast development team. Within the Office of Advancement, this position also works with unit development officers, data analytics team, communications, stewardship, special events, CPRC, Regional Alumni Relations, finance, and senior Advancement leaders. Across campus, this position will interact with University administrators, faculty, and staff. This position will also work closely with high-level donors.

The Associate Director, Donor Relations and Engagement will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
Donor and Prospective Donor Engagement - Strategy
  • Coordinate with the deployment team and development officers to determine regional engagement opportunities.
  • Acquire and build knowledge of Georgetown structure and academic initiatives, giving opportunities, campaign, board members, alliances, major prospects and donors in general and in depth in the New York region.
  • Responsibilities include partnering with campus leaders (Deans, faculty & senior administrators) to determine appropriate event, set budget, develop invitation list, and execute the event.

Donor and Prospective Donor Engagement - Engagement
  • In consultation with market leaders and unit-based development officers, this role will plan and execute regional events in the New York City area as a means to engage university donors.
  • This position will manage the guest list, work with hosts, engage Deans and University Principals, coordinate with the communications team as needed, develop the event structure and content, assist with briefings and bios, manage follow up with attendees, and ensure the contract process runs smoothly and other event-related duties, as assigned.
  • Events can vary in size from a small, intimate dinner to a large, multifaceted event.

Administrative
  • Handle projects as assigned by the Director.
  • Serve on Office of Advancement and University committees as assigned/necessary.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of specific experience in higher education development.
  • Event planning experience and experience with the highest level of potential donors is strongly preferred.
  • Fundraising knowledge is preferred.
  • Proven success in developing and managing events and programs required.
  • Familiarity and interest in the unique culture and traditions of Georgetown University.
  • Ability to navigate both Microsoft and Google suite.
  • Familiarity working in a database and knowledge of Salesforce is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to adapt communication style for various audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • The highest standards of professionalism, integrity and emotional intelligence are essential for success.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Willingness and ability to travel roughly once a month, mostly to NYC, but also Boston and other cities in the Northeast United States.
  • Willingness to work longer hours for events and other programs, as necessary.
