Job Title:
Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track, Economics

Job Summary:
The Department of Economics at the University of San Francisco is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level starting in August 2020. We are looking for an applied empirical economist whose research relates to the digitization of the economy. Such research might address the impacts of digitization on transportation, real estate, energy, healthcare, or labor markets, among others and may come from the perspective of market design, business strategy, or public policy. Applicants with research interests ranging beyond the US economy are particularly welcome.

Full Job Description:
Candidates are expected to be familiar with and able to teach some of the contemporary econometric and data science techniques useful in examining these topics (for example, online experimental design, machine learning, natural language processing).

The position will involve teaching and advising in the undergraduate curriculum and in the Master's program in Applied Economics, a newly-established program that trains students in economics and data science skills. Interest in developing and strengthening research and other partnerships with firms in the tech economy is a plus.

The standard tenure-track teaching load at USF is two 4-unit courses per semester with an additional third 4-unit course every fourth semester (2-2-2-3 over two years). USF expects both excellent teaching and an active program of empirical research leading to published work and provides substantial support for career development in both areas. The successful candidate must be dedicated to service to the department and University, and have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Economics by August 2020.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, a job market paper, evidence of teaching ability (including teaching evaluations), and three letters of recommendation electronically in PDF format to http://gnosis.usfca.edu/search. The cover letter should briefly outline your research agenda, highlighting how it connects to the objectives of the program. Any additional information indicating your particular interest in working at the University of San Francisco will be helpful, and job market signals submitted through the ASSA system will be taken very seriously. Applicants should be available for interviews at the ASSA meetings January 3-5 in San Diego.

Any questions can be sent to AppliedEconsearch@usfca.edu.

Complete applications must be received by December 1st, 2019, in order to be considered for the position.
