DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the VC-CFO, Information Technology Services (ITS) delivers Enterprise information technology services to the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) under the leadership of the campus Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Information Technology Services (IT Services) uses world-class services and technologies to empower UC San Diego's mission to transform California and the world as a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented public university. As a strategic member of the UC San Diego community, IT Services embraces innovation in their delivery of IT services, infrastructure, applications, and support. The Enterprise Network & Telecommunications (ENT) section within ITS designs, implements and manages UC San Diego's networks focusing on wired/wireless data network operations, network architecture, installation and repair, voice and video, outside plant management, and telecom planning.

The Network Applications group, within the ENT section, develops, installs and supports the infrastructure for IP Address Management, DNS, RADIUS and network management tools. It plays a key role in the provisioning and support of the services which keep the network running, and has key interface points with the network architects, the network operations group, the network security team, other teams within ITS and also with the wider campus System Administrator community. The Enterprise Operations Center is a 24/7 incident response team that monitors and initiations incident management for ITS applications, systems and services

This position requires a skilled Information Technologist with knowledge across a broad spectrum of disciplines. At least demonstrated and applied knowledge of:Data Design and Database Management. Basic Network Troubleshooting. Advanced System. Administration (including configuration management on a large scale). Incident Response Techniques. Security Best Practices. Software Design, Compilation, Modification, Implementation and Deployment.

Responsibilities: Maintenance and support of ResNet NAC. With the team, configure, deploy, and test Cisco ISE. Installation, configuration, and support of EOC Monitoring Infrastructure and Tools. Research, configuration, testing and deployment of Monitoring Tools. Database management. Log analysis and second tier Incident Response for EOC and Campus Voicemail

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Proven experience with database administration. Working knowledge of database management systems and standards. Knowledge relating to database system design. Advanced database querying and modeling skills working with moderately complex databases.

  • Experience with common database management systems such as SQL and MySQL and demonstrated understanding of and ability to design and implement systems which use relational database systems.

  • Demonstrated skill using and manipulating log analysis and performance metrics tools

  • Demonstrated experience setting up, modifying, updating and managing Network Access Control software, such as Cisco ISE or SafeConnect

  • Advanced skills in Linux/Unix system administration, configuration, and security monitoring.

  • Proven ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Understanding of and experience troubleshooting client, server and peripherals- related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

  • Experience in incident response and digital forensics, including data collection, examination and analysis. Demonstrated experience with Cisco IOS CLI, SNMP, sub-netting and DHCP.

  • Advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation. Basic knowledge of secure software development. Demonstrated ability to create software specifications.

  • Demonstrated thorough, practical experience at scale with common programming languages, including fluency in two or more of C#, Perl, PHP, and Java, and optionally in additional relevant languages such as C/C++, JavaScript, CSS, Ruby, Python, Bash, Scala and VB. Experience with software development tools such as editors, compilers, syntax checkers, and test platforms.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Required to carry a department cell phone in order to respond to outages.
